Looks awesome, Matt - I laud your creativity. This is what makes this whole hot rodding thing so much fun. I bet you'll have just as much fun in this bad boy as one you spent $15K on for paint! Maybe more because you'll drive this car and make memories galore!

Well done! What an encouragement to a lot of us on this site who have a "work-in-progress"...

Sure ya will Matt.. I said the same thing after shooting the 442 on Memorial weekend,Dang things been about to work me to death, may finally finish it this weekend. Lets see mount and balance the TA radials, paint the ralleye stripes on the hood and then outline em with double pinstripes,Align the front end,fix the broken A/C high side line and charge it up with R134A,install the front fender chrome, paint the hood nose piece and install, paint the hood louver bezels and install,etc.etc.etc. Well maybe by next weekend.

I know I can at least achive the goal of putting the emblems on... I did some custom paint work on them about 5 years ago, and they have been wrapped up in storage waiting for this

It was fun painting it.. I was used to siphon feed guns, but Walmart had the gravity feed gun, so I bought it, and it laid the paint down perfect.... all in all, it's proof you don't need expensive equipment.. If I had better conditions, it no doubt would have come out flawless... 3 quarts painted the car too

Just have to keep everyone away for a day or two. Everyone that doesnt know any better just seems to have to touch it to see if its still soft.

Looks like you did a good job Matt. What kind of respiratory did you use? I have priming to do before winter. The reason I'm asking about the respirator is because I just lost a friend to respiratory problems. About twenty years ago he was watching me mess around with cars, I painted a few in my garage, and I had an explosion proof fan plus at the time a good respirator. My friend started doing quite a few jobs in his small garage without the proper equipment, I tried to get him to practice safety but him being a young guy at the time, at least younger then me, he didn’t think it would be that bad. His life was cut way too soon, you can prevent lung damage but you can’t reverse it. Anyway nice job, and be safe.

The first car I painted was a 55 Chevy 2dr. ht. out side open air. I had help from the best neighbor a kid could have. He brought his compressor along with his spray gun; all I had was the paint supplies. It turned out nice; at least I thought it did. The year was 1965 I had a three day pass from the Army so we painted it.
