cash for clunkers program
what do you guys think about this program? i work for a new car dealership as im sure some of you guys do too. i just found out today we have to kill the engines in these cars wich i think really sucks. we have a couple cars already a s10 pick up and a volvo wagon wich looks like you could sell them for 3-4000.00 each . i was told to buy 2 bottles of liquide copper head gasket sealer drain the oil and add these bottles and a quart of water to the crank case start the engines and run them till they die. i havent done it yet but to me its like putting a dog to sleep. theres going to be some really nice cars and trucks going to the crusher an we aint aloud to touch them for parts or anything. i wonder whos getting the pay off on this idea? any thoughts?GLENN
you can do it if you know how it works

My 16 year old truck just missed. Just as well, I ordered it with a 350 4 bolt. It'd be a shame to shoot that one."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

I think the vehicles themselves can stay for parts, that was the purpose of the engine disablement clause...
personally.. few thing.. it's our tax dollars paying for someone elses vehicle.. This will end up with people leaving bad debts and put the country right back to square 1... the whole program makes little sense.. the vehicles traded in need to remain registered and insured for the period of 1 yr, no clue why as the qualafying vehicles also have to be liscensed for 120 days prior which cuts out people turning in non running/ unliscensed junkers... and not only that, it's going to limit the amount of cheap cars for sale, so those that need them will not have them or, ( with bad credit or whatever ) will have to use 1 of those sky high interest no/low credit car loans, and more than likely ither file for bankruptcy or just leave a bad debt due to not being able to afford it.. which is an effect I feel will come true after the program is up in november..
the program isn't going to effect our hobby, but it's not going to help the economy ither.. the 250,000 vehicles only include those produced after 1984You don't know what you've got til it's gone

I just did a bit of a rough figure.. figuring on the 1 million cap on the program ( 250,000 cars approx ).. if 1/4 of these become bad debts ( just a guess, but logical at that ), then there will be very close to 1 million in bad debts and the economy going backwardsYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

The government will give you $3500-$4500 towards a new car if you trade in your old gas guzzler. If you own a 1984 or newer vehicle that has been insured and registered to you for the past year and gets a "combined" 18 miles to the gallon or less, you can qualify. The amount you get depends on the estimated miles per gallon you increase to by trading in.
I LOVE THIS NEXT PART!
The EPA has changed the way it estimates MPG.
Starting in model year 2008, estimates reflect the effects of;
1. Faster Speeds & Acceleration
2. Air Conditioner Use
3. Colder Outside Temperatures
I especially love that last one...WHAT HAPPENED TO GLOBAL WARMING?
For any of us with a brain, and who pay a little attention, we know that since the introduction of corn subsidies and methanol...YOUR GAS MILLAGE HAS DECREASED BY AT LEAST 10 PERCENT, and in some cases as much as 20 percent. That is the real reason for the millage adjustment. Why does our government lie to us? Do they really think we are ALL that stupid.
You can check your cars "NEW" estimated MPG here;

I might have to rethink this. Blue book is 1,900 on the ol' p.u. Is it worth 1-2g's savings to take on a payment again? I dunno...."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

Dunno man....Sure does make my old Bonneville worth a heck of a lot more then it would ever be on the open market......Better go check and see, huh????? I suppose, like anything else, there's 2 sides to the issue---but maybe I'll just look after my own funds this time.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

No longer a moral dilema for me, the Bonneville doesn't qualify.... Oh well, I like it just fine anyway....though for a minute there I was thinking a G-6 or 8 (whatever they call them this year) convertible might have been in my future!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Yep, I think a "sale" is only a good deal if you plan to buy anyway. My ol' Chevy isn't costin' me much. Repairs have been far & few between. Doesn't use oil, always starts. Why buy new when the old unit is still dependable?
I just talked myself out of it. Glad that's over."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.
