    Stranded!

Seems like all new rod projects have a wringing out period and mine did
as well but it took almost six months.
The biggest issue was not having the car start again after arriving at a destination.
It was really intermittent and had me pulling my hair out for months.
The car would start every time when cold and drive like a dream for
hours but stop for awhile for lunch and come back out and it would crank
    but never start.
This was a very low mileage LS1 engine and all the tests I ran turned up
nothing. No codes on the computer......NOTHING!

I made a test harness to hook my scope up to the #1 plug and was able to
duplicate the "no start" in the shop.
    Ignition pulse looked normal.
Fuel pump would start up and run when key turned on.
Fuel was arriving at the engine ok. Pulses were also arriving for the
    injectors.

ECU? I replaced it at a pretty steep price.
One day my Wife says, "how much fuel pressure do you have"?
    I said, "Plenty".
I got to thinking though and looked up the value in the shop manual.
    Hummmm.....45 to 55 psi.
Well, I guess that's normal for an FI engine.
I'm used to 6 or 8 on carb setups.

I went a purchased a gage and hooked it up to the Schrader valve and
started the engine. HOLY COW! I'm getting 135 psi.
I call up the guy who sold me the fuel tank with pump and complained.
He tells me that it is normal for those LT1 engines.

I tell him it's an LS1 engine and he says,,, "Oh, those have an external fuel
regulator and the engine needs 45psi or so......

I really lost it! I read him my e mail I sent to him describing what I needed.
All I got was that stupid cliche, "My Bad"! Stupid Stupid Stupid!

I went down and picked up a regulator from the local parts store and had it installed in an hour. End of problem.

I'm trying to picture the amount of current needed to get the injectors to operate with that much fuel pressure.
I can laugh about it now but who would have thought.

Thanks for sharing, now I will know something to check if it ever happens to me. I used a Corvette filter/regulator on mine. Target pressure is 58 PSI. Sure glad you got it sorted out!

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Thanks for sharing that, glad you finally got it figured out.
I'd still be looking for the problem. Kurt

I'm impressed with your wife. I would have never thought of that. She must be one smart lady, and one good mechanic!
