FIRE near my sisters house North of Sacramento, Ca
Got a call from my sister who lives north of Sacramento, Ca in Dobbins. She told me her 60 acres just went up in flames but her house was spared thanks to the sprinklers all over her property an on her home(she's gone through a couple of fires over the past 35yrs) and that she mows everything w/in 300 ft of her house. Firefighters told her that is most likely the only reasons her house was saved. She told me she can look out her windows & see fire & hot ambers just down the hill from her.
Something close to 1000 acres have burned or is burning at the moment. We do know 2 home have burned farther down her road near the canyon. My sister has seen the land around her go up in flames many times over the 35 years she has been there but it was the first time it burned almost all her property...Joe

Pretty scary. I live in Placerville, CA on 1 acre and it's fairly wooded with oak trees. I wish I could clear 300 feet all the way around my house. My lot is very strangely shaped. If I did that I'd be in jail. The oaks are protected up here. I always worry this time of year. Good luck to your sister. She did the right thing.

Glad to hear she is o.k. and the house was spared! It's hot in this neck of the woods right now, and very dry. Those late spring showers didn't help much, only made the brush and grass grow higher! Headed that way this morning to get the deer I shot on tuesday. Should be a smoky drive!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

We can see the smoke from our house and 24 fire fighters came in while we were at IHOP tonight. Glad she and her property are safe. This is a scary time of year for hill folks here. Especially with 3 years of dry weather.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Talked to her this evening, everything seems to be fine at the moment other then the excitement of what she thought was Military Helicopters landing in the field across the street from her house. She'll need gas for her generator soon but is affraid to leave in fear they won't let her back on to her road, so she's just going to stick it out untill she's sure they can get in & out of the area w/out problems...joeDonate Blood,Plasma,Platelets & sign your DONORS CARD & SAVE a LIFE

Now that is close! Did the fire break stop it? It looks like a beautiful area. Hope she is o.k." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

No fire break, unless you want to call her having cut her grass shortttttt a fire break. The short grass is what stopped it, that & she had everything w/in 100ft of her house soaked down and the fire fighter were stationed on her property because the fire swept acrossed the back of her land. She called & said for the most part the only thing around her is smoldering and there is a lot of smoke in the air. Something like 3-5 miles burned. Her electric finally came on last night after she was able to sneek out & get gas for her generator & food.
The worst part is it's going to take a crew of people to clean up around her property. My brother & I are hoping to go out this winter or spring before everything starts to grow & help her for a month or so. I hoping she can get a tractor or backhoe so I can get in there & drag a lot of the trash(downed trees) out to finish cutting it up & possibly burning it.Donate Blood,Plasma,Platelets & sign your DONORS CARD & SAVE a LIFE
