    NASCAR's New Track

I watched the truck race from Iowa last night.... Looks like it's going to be a nice track to race on..... 7/8's of a mile with progressive banking. Truck were 3 wide with no problem, sometimes made 4 wide with no major problems... First truck race at the track so of course Mike Skinner won it. They did run an ARCA race there last year. Rusty Wallace had a lot of input on the design, best thing is it's not just another 1 1/2 mile track, too many of them already!

I just watching the replay on Speed - it looks like a good track to really run rubbin' 'n' racin' and a good spectator track. Hopefully at least the Nationwide cars will get there next year - especially after watching the Hotlanta race - Zzzzzzz - until the last 8-10 laps. Even the Cup cars last night weren't very exciting for a spectator tho it is nice to see someone different win occasionally.

I watched that race also and I like the track. NASCAR is losing a lot of fans with their cookie cutter tracks and every car has to be the same. I have always preferred road racing, but the past few years I have almost quit paying much attention to NASCAR because of their stupid rules. I hate the so called Lucky Dog and all of the caution flag laps so they can get in their commercials. They sure didn't fill the stands at Fontana this year. Of course the economy had some to do with that I am sure.

If I remember correctly, Rusty is the owner or one of the major owners of the Iowa track. My dad went there once right after they finished it because they had some drivers come in to test or practice and he said it was a very nice facility.

NASCAR has to get some excitement back in the racing to keep the fans.... I really enjoy the racing, I don't consider any of them boring... I enjoy paying attention to a lot of the little things that probably just don't interest the casual fan..... The pit crew actions and the speed at which they get things done, how a few tenths of a second delay in the pits can determine the outcome of the race.... Sometimes I wish they would be like Sat night racing and not even count the yellow flag laps, but I guess they don't want my input on the rules.....

They're going to need something besides the mundane 1 1/2 mile tracks.... The truck race at the Iowa track was great!!! So many grooves and lines on the track 3 wide without a wreck was easy!!!!! I still like Talladega and Daytona, but the short tracks seem to be drawing the biggest crowds and producing the best races this year....

Definitely gonna be at the next NASCAR race in Iowa, hopefully it will be the Nationwide cars but another truck race would be great, too!!!!!

    Hey Dave,

Did you watch that Nationwide race in Montreal a couple of weekends ago when they finished in the rain? I wish they would have more short tracks and more road tracks, but not Sears Point as it was not made for big cars. I miss the old Ontario race track, but they had to build houses where it was.

Yup, caught that one too, Ron!!!! I'd like to see more road racing, too... But it's going to take some track work, or some new one's, to get them wide enough to handle the big cars..... Still wish NASCAR would just do some simple things for the "big class"..... Take 500 pounds off the minimum weight and limit the compression ratio to 9:1 (like the old ASA race engines), maybe even limit the number of tires allowed per event like the Nationwide and Truck classes....Make the driver manage his tire use a bit and allow a bit of competition amongst the manufacturer's to supply a tire that will maintain grip and live awhile....

Back to the road racing aspect, maybe the new Nationwide cars will be a bit better adapted to road racing, sure hope so! Always fun to watch some events that involve more then just turn left and stand on the gas!!!! The Nationwide cars are down on power enough that the biggest money isn't always the best money and hopefully the new cars will put a bit more "driver" in the equation.....

The cup cars need more road races but they like the 1.5 cookie cutters because they can sell more seats.. I hate it but it's a fact of life.
I remember when hot rods were all home made.
