I saw a lot of cars for sale at NSRA Burlington a couple of weeks ago - most MUCH nicer looking then that one - and for a heluva lot less. Quite frankly - yours is much better. Remember - the economy and prices are (way) down. This one? Wishful thinking!!Dave W

The "Icons of Speed..." auction was this past weekend at the Petersen Museum. It was no reserve on everything there and some of the prices were just flat out shocking. The market has gotten very selective. Just to give you an idea, a '29 on '32 rails that really DOES have history sold for $33k plus 10% buyers fee. This car was at the first GNRS, drove in, was disassembled and reassembled on the show floor to demonstrate to the viewers how a hot rod was built. The car was completely restored a few years ago. With that documented history, condition, and vintage equipment it had it was a steal. But that's the market today. A couple Roth creations there went for half the pre-auction estimates.
I'm guessing you want to trade your sedan and this guys story sounds like he'd be a prospect. Market value wise the two cars may be similar in value, but then that is only true if two people can agree. If his car is in fact gennie steel, had an original firewall and floors, had a more traditional interior and were a hiboy (along with quite a few more things that are "wrong" with the car) he'd stand a better chance of getting his money.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Here's the kicker..........
I did offer to trade him and told him that his 4 grandchildren would fit in my car like he wants. I offered an even trade and we meet in the middle (distance wise) with the cars. He said he would trade but needed cash too. He said that he had it appraised and it appraised for $48,000, and it would have appraised for more but due to the economy it did not.Go Hokies!!!!!! Youther, Have you had your car accurately appraised lately? Then you could compare appraisals and settle all doubt as to if the deal was fair or not.
Just a thought.

I was trying to deal with this guy also--and got the same response. I didnt think it had the value in it either because of the hand holder interior.www.adoptafriendforlife.org

With all due respect to those guys on here who do appraisals, in many cases you can get any number you want from some appraisers. Artificial numbers can be useful for insurance purposes and cheap talk over your beverage of choice, but when it comes time to move a car the only appraiser whose opinion has any REAL validity is the one with a bag full of Benjamins.
This guy's car is advertised in the single largest car marketing tool in the world. If he's right about the value he puts on it, it will sell, maybe not on the site but in offline traffic generated by being advertised there. Same for the appraisal that's supposedly low because of current market conditions. Again, if that were accurate he'd have bidding proving it.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Bob-- You are right to a certian point.
Most of the "True" appraisers will write what they see, and the bottom line has nothing to do with the economy.
True honest parts, material, labor and condition.
I usually write mine @ replacment cost not resale, as most are written for insurance purpose's.
The guy who want's me to inflate the sheet for what ever reason will be told "Pay me for my trip out here, and then find a crook to write it for you"
Don't need to deal with people like that as my rep with the industry is on the line. When I get to where I was goin, I forgot why I went there>
