yes, you cand do it like you said. another option is to get a bootable copy over program. install the new HD, transfer files, and put your new HD on the master or SATA 1 if that's what it is and just remove the old 1.. I'm pretty sure Western Digital data lifegaurd tools will do the transfers and is bootableYou don't know what you've got til it's gone
