A few years ago my wife and I were going to one of the big name drug stores when I noticed an elderly man coming into the parking lot. I spotted a Veteran plate on his car. I felt compelled to engage in a conversation with this man so I told my wife to go on in and I waited for him to get out of his car. It took him awhile to get out as you know when we get older it becomes more difficult. When the man was clear of his car not trying to scare him, I said I noticed your plate. We talked about the Military I said all of my brothers and myself were in the Military during one of the wars or conflicts. I had two older brothers that were in a tank during Korea. One brother drove the tank the other brother was a gunner. My brother closest to me was in Vietnam and has since passed away. They couldn’t say the Agent Orange gave him the cancer though out his body but the cancer was too much for him. This man and I talked about a lot of things, he said he lost his wife and had a tear in his eye. When we finished talking I held out my hand and said thanks for what you did for this Country. Like was said before when you have been in the Military it stays with you, the pride of this Country. I have a Nephew that has served two terms in Iraq, and a Niece that was there shortly after it started she drove an 18-wheel fuel tanker. Just a couple of weeks ago I had a victim statement to read in a criminal theft case we had against a person. The last sentence of my statement went like this.

“Thanks for letting me speak, this is the Greatest Country In The World and I’m so PROUD at the age of 17 years old I served my Country in the US ARMY from 1964 to 1967.”

Like wise I thank all who are serving, and for those who have served. It was a nice feeling when I had talked to the Old Soldier. The old guys are going fast so you can make their day if you can give them a minute of your time to let them talk to you.
