Mice like wire insulation
I bought a new set of wires when starting the engine rebuild and six months later while hooking them up found that a mouse has chewed on the outside of on of them. He ate thru the insulation and a little in the glass but not into the center conductor. I am thinking I can tape over and use it. The area is up on the cap. Being in the country I have had problems with mice under the hood of cars outside but none in the garage where the cats live. I will have a talk with them.

We live in the country also, cornfields on two sides we have Cat's but mice are still able to get by them to do damage, and they like rubber glass line also. I couldn't get my old 79 Ford F250 started I kept putting starting fluid in the carb; it would try to run then stop. I found the line had been chewed at the fuel pump.

Rabbits like spark plug wires too. I would have never believed it until I talked to a guy that I saw changing plug wires on a parts chaser for a company I used to deliver steel to. I struck up the conversation when I saw him putting new plug wires on a second time in about two weeks. I asked how he knew it was rabbits and he said he watched them go up under the rig and when he came out he lifted the hood real quick and the little guys jumped out like little bugs. He said one of 'em even vaulted off his chest when he accidentally landed on him! He showed me the wires and sure enough, they were biting chunks of the silicone insulation off to eat. Must be good stuff to rabbits!

We live with open fields around us as well, I always leave the hood open outside and in and cats in the garage. I seem to find that they do like the open exposure. On a good veihle may have to worry about the wind in my area but my Jeep cheeroke with the hood open has never had and damage. One put lots of that blueish bait under the car seat and the next couple of days it was all gone expecting to see dead mice and rats but instead found all the bait stuffed in the air cleaner and carb area. I have a lot of mice traps, I'm going to surround the better cars with them bait peanut butter that way if the Cat's get the mice they won't get sick.

I've started making a bait of peanut butter mixed with oatmeal to a soft putty consistency. They had been licking fresh peanut butter clean without tripping the trap! The new ones with the plastic bait pad (TomCat brand) don't seem to have the hair trigger like the old metal ones did.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

The poison isn't a good idea if you have cats as they'll get the mouse after he has eaten the bait and it will more than likely kill them too! I still buy the old style wooden traps and put a piece of the peanut from chunky peanut butter into the small hole on the trap. I force the piece of nut into the hole so the mouse has "work" to get it out. Then set it with a hair trigger, watch your fingers! Gets em every time! I'm pretty lucky as I live next to woods and open fields all around me, so I get my share of the mouse population. I have 3 outside barn cats that I can count on. You're dead when you get caught in their "Triangle of Death'!....CRI thought I knew a lot, until I had teenagers!

Wow guys I just got back to this post and I am upset because I went out yesterday to try and get the 1995 Bronco going for my daughter and found a nest next to the fi intake and all kinds of wires and vac. lines eaten. We have tons of rabbits and from reading the above think that may be the problem. Now have to really get to work on the Bronco figuring out what all is gone.
Getting closer on this project. What a lot of work!
