New show Discovery Channel.......
Did anyone watch the new (well new to me) show on the Discovery Channel with the "Detroit Brothers" where they built a "gasser" out of a Model T sedan? (more correctly it was an altered, but they called it a gasser) If so, what did you think of it?
I'll hold my thoughts for a while to see what others thought.

I watched the whole thing. I really want to see shows where talented people build cool stuff but it never seems to work that way. Oh well.........It's not the first time I've waisted an hour of my life.Give me something to cut with, I'm going to build a Hotrod

I only watched about half of it and changed channels. It's a "Momster Garage" remake. Kind of like MG at the end though. Lot of misinformation if you ask me.Livin' on Route 66

I wanted to hold my opinion so that I wasn't just being grumpy in not liking it. The show stunk. First off, it is a bad clone of Monster Garage (at least Jesse has talent) and they destroyed a really nice Model T for nothing. The end result was not only out of proportion, it was badly thrown together.
I know it's only TV and all that BS, but why can't the guys who produce these shows get beyond the mentality that stupid drama and tricks ruin what could be a good show otherwise. Even a show like Overhaulin' with a super talented guy like Chip Foose has to resort to tricks. Come on, the first second that one guy and the chick would show up as "cops" I would yell out "OH MAN< YOU GUYS ARE FROM OVERHAULIN'" Like nobody could spot them.
Dan and I sat up till 1 pm watching that show last night and it was only because it was like watching a train wreck, we couldn't look away. The next two episodes look REAL promising. They are going to convert a Suburban into a pothole filler, and the next week build a corn shucker popcorn popper out of some other car. OH JOY!
At least Rich wised up on PINKS and reinvented the show into something somewhat close to reality with not much drama.
So I vote NO on this latest one too.

I saw a posting on another forum this morning how they kept referring to the car as a '28 Model T...............and then it goes downhill from there. Glad I didn't waste any time on it. All this "reality" stuff must be made for mashed potato heads waiting for the next government directive on what to do. It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.

I have been a serious motorhead since I was 10... 51 years ago! I love anything that can be customized or hopped up! It became my hobby, and my career, and I still can't seem to get enough! ....but I don't watch these shows because they just aren't meant for car people. It's more about unbelieveable drama, and the cars are just an excuse to build their phony script around.
The Foose program isn't as bad, because at least they put together something nice, but I have to confess that I think his designs all look alike, so after a few episodes, there isn't enough variety to keep me interested.
I believe that if one of these shows is going to make it long-term, they need to do popular builds in a somewhat unusual manner.... change it up every episode, so the projects seem "new".... spend a little time explaining how choices were made (engine type, wheel style, interior choices, paint color, and so on).... and maybe teach some skills along the way.
It's okay to write in a little "intelligent" humor, or maybe have the program culminate at an event, or poll enthusiasts to see what their response is to what they see, but if they don't replace the stupid unbelieveable outbursts, and phony "storyline", with some serious subject matter, they won't last one season.... or maybe even one episode.... with me.Last edited by HOTRODPAINT; 12-29-2009 at 01:45 PM.

Lets face it, most tv shows are geared to the mindless idiots and this forum has people with a working mind so we ,as a hole, are not going to like the show.

I watched it mainly because I saw a 26 Tudor while flipping through the channels. I guess my build will now be considered "cool" with the common non-car people that watched a mindless tv show. Maybe at least it will get younger people involved in old cars. Fairly certain I will not watch the next episodes.Me: I don't know how to build a hot rod.
Old Hot Rodder: You ever build a model car?
Me:Yeah...
Old Hot Rodder: Well instead of using glue you weld.
