    Thieves-- Man O Man

Has the problem of people stealing stuff always been this bad??? Tonight I stepped out on the back porch to have a smoke, now I live out in the country a few miles and crime has never been a problem for us sense we moved here two and a half years ago. Oh you hear the storys about drugs this and the problems they cause, but you just don't think it going to be a problem. Anyways as I am setting there I noticed the shop door was swinging open. I knew I had locked it when I came in tonight. The shop is about 100 yards or so from the house. I jumped on my golf cart and went to close and lock the door, when I saw lights in the shop. I went in the house and grapped a pistol and went to check. As I pull up in front of the shop two dudes run out the side door. I stopped them and had Joanne call the Police. Inside the shop they had all of my Snap on tools bagged and ready to go, they were selective thieves I guess as they left the Craftsman tools alone. Police come and haul them away. Police took a statement and now its 2:00 AM and things have finally calmed down some, but man am I pissed. I worked damn hard for what stuff I do have, payed for every bit of it myself with my own money, I sure would like to keep it. So I guess for a little piece of mind I will get an alarm system tomorrow or just as soon as they can install one.

Its a shame though when a man has to make the choice of just how far you will "HAVE" to go to keep what is rightly yours. Now even though I did grap a pistol before I went to confront these pricks, I would have had a very hard time shooting these two idiots over some stuff. Thankfully they didn't know that and they were so busy trying to figure a way out that it didn't have to come to that. But in the end stuff is still stuff and I was able to have it end that way. They didn't need killing , but they damn sure needed a good old fashioned ass wooping. Maybe if that happened when they were young uns they would respect others belongings.

Sorry for the vent but I'm still a little goofy from this.

The cheek of some of these people...I suppose they were druggies who needed some money for their next dose...You are lucky they were not desperate types who were armed ..then again, maybe their goolies turned to mush when they saw your pistol..Good that you got them..yeah,alarm next purchase or a slightly psycotic dog,,one that LOVES sudden movements..

The hell of it is chances are they will spend a couple hours (days at most) in jail, then be given a slap on the wrist and probation and back to do it to someone else.
I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

I'm just glad you were thinking and went to get your gun.
Who knows what would have happened if you thought you forgot the door open and just
went out to shut it. You might have taken a beaton with your own tools.
Back in the old day's I would have shot to wound, maybe a knee cap so they couldn't run.
But now the burglers have been comming back and sueing the people they were trying to rob. And these courts are awarding these crimanials money, so if I have to shoot someone they just are not gonna make it. I'm not getting sued or locked up for someone trying to rob me or trying to do me or my family harm!!! I am glad you and your family are safe, and you still got all the stuff you spent so much time and money on over the years. Had a friend around the corner that built 36 chevy, It was beautiful and took him years to build. Well someone stoled it right out of his drive, now he's to old to do another. I sware everytime he talks about his car you can see him tear up.
It's sad to think these crooks not only stoled his car but his dream of cruzin around in a car he built with his own hands. Kurt

Roland, glad your timing was right, that you had the foresight to arm yourself, and that things worked as they did. Being out in the country carries with it being farther away from law enforcement and the need to be able to fend for yourself as you did.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Glad to see that you caught the baddies. Too bad that they will probably be turned loose to continue - especially with today's crappy justice system.

Luckily - never have had tools stolen or the house broken into. When we lived in the boonies, we were told that there were some problems and had an alarm system installed - with the little signs. We moved back to suburbia and in a nice community and had a better alarm installed. The houses on both sides of us as well as several other neighbors have been broken into. Again with the little signs and window stickers, I think we beat the baddies - I have seen foot tracks in the yard - snow and morning dew after the bad guys were doing their deed. It isn't free - but IMO - well worth the $20/month for monitoring and the little yard signs and window stickers - they also help.

Glad you went out for a smoke, or you wouldnt have any more tools. Glad you caught them, but some of our laws suck, they protect the crimnals too much. Weres the good old days, GET A ROPE

Sorry about the break-in Roland, glad you caught them in the act and made other arrangements for their evening for them!!! Theives all over these days, some blame the economy but I think it's just a bunch of lazy people looking for an easier way to make a buck. Heck, even some of the people who you hire to work for you seem to think that helping themselves to materials and parts is ok because you "owe" them!!!!

The break in sucks, but it sounds like you have a very level head and kept it working!
A few will say you didn't need the gun, but studies have found that over 90% of the time just showing it will bring a dangerous situation down to a manageable level.
