1969 Mustang Boss 429 Fastback MCA Gold, 3,857 Miles,
It may seem unusual to associate the word “restraint” with one of the wildest machines of the muscle car era, but it is entirely appropriate when it comes to the skilled restoration of this outstanding 1969 Mustang Boss 429. The process began after the car was purchased from the original owner in 2005, and resulted in its winning an MCA Gold Concours Trailered award in the spring of 2009. In between, the Boss 429 was carefully renewed with special attention to maintaining as much originality as possible.
The raw material was impressive: an entirely original, one-owner Boss with barely 3,800 miles on the odometer, with every component intact and still sporting its factory-applied Wimbledon White paint. The engine compartment needed freshening, so the car was stripped to the firewall and all components refinished with the correct colors and anodizing. Then the car was placed on a rotisserie to facilitate refinishing the undercarriage in the same fashion, with new primer and coatings for the rebuilt suspension and drivetrain.
The massive 429 powerplant was cosmetically refreshed, the only mechanical update coming in the form of a correctly-coded (and, we are told, very difficult to find!) NOS Holley 4-barrel carburetor; the rest of the engine remains entirely undisturbed and running perfectly.
In keeping with the aim of maximum originality and thanks to the marvelous condition of the body, the factory Wimbledon White finish was retained throughout, with the welcome result that all the lights, lenses, glass and trim also remain unchanged. The only visible cosmetic upgrades involved refinishing the chromed and painted Magnum wheels and replacing the original tires with correct rubber. The interior is as clean as can be, described by the present owner as “ten out of ten’, with only a new carpet required to take it into First-In-Class territory; again, everything else is as it came from the factory.
It is no small achievement to even find an original Boss 429, especially with this example’s early production number (KK1266). To then take that valuable piece of Ford muscle and restore it to MCA Gold status while maintaining so much of its originality is truly exceptional, a phrase that well describes this fabulous Boss 429.

Contractually I cannot speak of it further than I did (I signed a non disclosure that covered a good majority of what is and what is not wrong with the car as it was presented). Had another 45+ year old member take offense to this and attempted to persuade me in a negative manner to put up or shut up taking that thread where it should never have to go. I'll leave it at that.
