I'm not sure they're all that into our kind of cars; www.peopleofwalmart.comYour Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.
Luck occurs when preparation and opportunity converge.

Thought I would revive this
With some more Deer pics. Took these today, 1st one from my back yard, rest from my neighbors yard. Was walking from the shop to the house and thought I saw something in the neighbors yard. Sure enough so I continue to the house and grab the camera. Came back out and the deer had moved but happened to get a shop from my yard, didn't know if I would get any more. Eased into the neighbors yard and found there were two. One had a nice 3 point rack, the other was just barely a 3 point. Either one by this fall would go good in the freezer.

That is so cool Jack, thanks for sharing your backyard pets with us. I enjoy a nice venison steak but I don't think I could shoot one of those friendly creatures for the freezer.

Those are in deed great pictures Jack! It is wonderful to be able to see the wildlife up close in our yards like that! We get shots like this down at our lake place in Mossyrock all the time and have eagles that live in the trees at our place that we throw squawfish to... it is awesome!
BTW, I agree with Whip as I no longer would be able to shoot these animals either. I used to be an avid hunter when I needed the food to survive. I am not at all against it, I just can't bring myself to hunt anymore. Greg

Whiplash and Greg,
Thanks for the comments. I still hunt but at 67 am slowing down a bit. I hunt walk in (or bike in) only, helps in my war against the bulge, but if I had to hunt to eat we would starve to death. Better hunter than getter. Took a couple of pics of the wall behind where I am now typing. Greg, the Elk was shot in the Winston Creek area not far from Mayfield Lake, the bear was shot 5-6 miles from my house, not a huge bear as bears go but the skin measured 6'1" from nose to tail, 190 to 200 lbs. I used to hunt in rain snow or sun, I am now mostly fair weather hunter. As soon as the rain stops around here I will start my summer scouting.
Jack.

Jack - My place is at the Winston Creek end of the lake. As a matter of fact, you turn off of Winston Creek Road at the church/youth camp ground at Haddler Road. There is still a lot of good hunting up in the hills there! I have a favorite spot about half way to Swafford Pond where I go target shooting.
I am heading down there Monday morning to do some yard work, etc; for a couple days and looking forward to it! Seeing we're showing pictures, here's a couple down at the lake...

Greg,
That's a beautiful place you and your family have there, have been by that camp many times, even ate at the Light House? Inn once. We used to have a camping lot at Cowlitz Timber Trails but sold it a few years ago. Do they still stock those tiger muskies in the lake? Got to get off this computer and work on the 34.

Yes they do still plant them Jack. I think 2,400 were planted this year as I recall. We have had a place down there since '89 and bought the current place in '95. It is a beautiful area of the state!

Whiplash,
Come on over, you are welcome anytime. Might even find a spare bedroom to put you up. Don't expect to see deer everyday though, the deer come out mostly after dark. May catch them out in the daylight once or twice a year. BTW, years ago (1982 to be exact) I and some of my fishing buddies appeared in one of your "Rod&Rifle Yearbooks". A friend of mine was a budding outdoor writer and had one of his articles accepted. It featured Steelhead and Salmon fishing in Wa. St. I pulled out my copy of the mag. just now to get the year and issue right. If you know anybody who saves old issues take a look.

Thanks very much for the invitation Jack.. I read your response out to mum, (who I promised to look after here in our home to the day she dies) and she was so excited for me and then she said, quite sadly, heck you wouldn't be able to go until I die... So I told her in know uncertain terms that although I'm 53 years old I still had a heap of time left to fulfil the only thing on my bucket list, visit my new rodding friends in the home of rodding, USA... So again thanks, and this computer brings friends closer then ever before..

Whiplash, aint that the truth...I have only seen a few bits of California,Vegas, and the corner of Arizona,on the way back to Huntington Beach, and that was in 1991..The photos that you ,Greg, and Jack have posted have made my day,for it is truly a beautiful part of the country, and it has been our goal to get up to America for a trip in the near future...we have had a few set backs financially,so things have been put on hold for a while,,,but, yeah,,comin back up one day...Micah 6:8

As Jack stated... you guys are always welcome! I know we have lots of room and there is usually some sort of WILD life activity going on!
Whip - They say the Tigers are edible but I have never tasted them. We always catch and release to let them get even bigger! They are a territorial fish so we have caught a couple of them several times. We pulled one up the summer before last that was 50 inches with a 18" girth!!! Two of the state records have been caught right in front of our dock.
Let us know when you are coming and Jack, Bob and I will roll out the red carpet!
Cheers,
Greg

Thanks for that Greg,,Lynda and I had hoped to take a trip a couple of years ago, but,it wasnt to be,and it probably wont happen for another year or three now, but, rest assured, when we get up there,we will be doing as many miles in that neat country as we possibly can..We intend to do a fair amount of travelling,,and I know that Whip will be saving the pennies too,,Yeah, also wanna tackle one of those great big tigers you have in the lakes up there..Like I said,we gonna travel a bit, between Washington, and through the guts of that great country to Florida,Might have to sell some toys to achieve this...Oh well, never mind..Micah 6:8

Yep. And I seem to move 1 thing and it displaces something else with 1/2 of that landing on the workbench and then I forgot where I was going with this other thing and I'll see something else that...
