Better than going to the zoo!
A few months back I posted pictures of a mama possum that had set up housekeeping under the hood of my son's old Duster. You hear other old geezers say that nothing much surprises them anymore, but I have to say that critter really got my attention!

A lot of people live around here (Fort Worth/Dallas area) but that doesn't bother the wildlife a bit. On our little one-acre lot we have also seen the usual stuff, like squirrels, gophers, rabbits, and raccoons. Add to that armadillos, coyotes, and a variety of snakes.
But how about this? We have occasionally caught a glimpse of a fox zipping across the road at night so we knew they were around here, but this mama and two kits moved in under the back porch. They lounge around out there like they own the place. I have gotten to within ten feet of her and she just looks bored with the situation. In the picture the big one and one little one are plainly visible. The other one is partially hidden but it's there.
But we aren't bothered by rats. I think I know where they went!

Fox are danged Cool - - - - when we lived west of Lampasas we had several feral Cats, Red Fox, Turkey, Deer, Quail, Hogs, Coons, Possum, Armadillo and Rabbits that came thru our little 7 acres all the time. We kept feeders out for the deer and turkey and one particular spot in the back yard that I would put out dry cat food and one big feral cat and a small fox would come out at dusk and eat together - - - - their noses wouldn't be 6 " from each other..

At least they will keep the little varmits away!
We had a family of rock squirrels move under a storage shed. The grandkids loved watching the 7 little ones play, while mom hustled the meals. It was a lot of fun.... until they got into another shed and started eating the Christmas lights! :-( I stopped feeding them and they moved on.

Foxes are really beautiful animals. When we lived in Pennsylvania we had a fox den in the hillside of our one home. I didn't realize it was there for the longest time until I saw it come out of there one day.
At our shop we have a bunch of community cats that we feed almost every night, there is also a lady up the street who feeds the same cats. One day I drove past the dishes she puts out and there was a momma raccoon and about 6 or 7 little ones, eating in the same dishes as the cats. I thought the cats would have been afraid of them but they were within a couple feet of each other, all merrily eating away.
