Lookin' for market reaction...
...to the following commercial.
Advertising often gets very market segment specific. This commercial is really targeted. I'm just curious how many people on this forum get it.
If you get the visual jokes please don't spoil it for now, I'd like to get some valid info. If you don't get it, don't be ashamed to admit it........you'll probably enjoy it when we let the hamster out of the bag.

Well.... they obviously aren't interested in ME as a potential buyer!
To start with... I like my information in something other than hip-hop slang... and even then this message is only about "image".
Years ago I was involved in writing some training manuals. My supervisor... (with a couple college degrees)... told me to always pretend people are from Mars... so you write for the worst possible communicator, by assuming they will only understand the simplest words or messages. ...and today a large number of young buyers never even graduated high school!
...so deel wit dat ...dooo daaah diiippety!

When I first saw it on TV I thought it was aimed at a young, probably ethnic, audience. I also thought it was pretty cute. As we used to say on American Bandstand, "It's got a good beat and you can dance to it"

I think it's a clever ad....with all the references to their
competition.....when did Kia ever become the "preference" to
other brands? Kia is listed as a brand that might not
survive this year....Hundai owns them and with Kia's bad
rap, they may roll it all into the mother company.
But the ad is still cool.....defines the mentality of folks
who would buy one and their target market.

You guys reactions are cracking me up!
Actually, I think the commercial is very creative and filled with symbolism. First, the characters are all hamsters (rats) symbolic of the human race (rat race). The "hero" characters break out as "gangsta rats" who don't wanna be stuck on the wheel in the cage driving a car with all the flare of a toaster, washing machine or cardboard box. They've found a car with "soul" i.e. the Kia Soul, which in their view, let's them navigate the "rat race" with a little style & pinache. The choice of using a rap song which is familiar to most of their targeted demographic allows them to make their point comparing the cool with the uncool while staying on a budget.

I have no idea what that was all about.
Even with the kind explanation above Im not sure if their target market is pet shop owners or low level pharmaceutical distributors.
But Im pretty sure its not me babe, that they're lookin for.....
