All that stuff I prolly knew the answer to at one time or another, but I'll answer the two I'm pretty sure about:
If you over revved a Corvair, it almost certainly would toss the fan belt; It would come slack off the back side of the crank pulley and with the twist in it to turn the corner to the fan, it would just walk right off of the idler. There was something else that was common to the over speed issue, too, and my rusty memory wants to say it had to do with the valve train - seems it was easy to float the valves.
Seems to me that a quarte inc bolt would suffice for aligning the arms on a Hurst shifter. I guess I could go take up the floor plate and find out, but I won't.Rrumbler, Aka: Hey you, "Old School", Hairy, and other unsavory monickers.
Twistin' and bangin' on stuff for about sixty or so years; beat up and busted, but not entirely dead - yet.

I think that Hurst alignment pin was 1/4 inch. I remember using a 1/4 inch long bolt because I lost the pin for mine.
As for the pipe cap cutouts, you had to put grease on the threads or the cap wouldn't come off easily. They were also a bear to reach under there, especially when hot.

WOW, a bunch of old guys with good memories!!
Still some answers open
What was the common thing to happen when you over-rev’ed your Corvair? Why?
Yep, the belt flew off....the crank pulley was horizontal and the fan on top of the motor horizonatlly....the two pulleys were 90 deg to each other....
Why did a lot of guys buy a console-delete car in the 60’s and 70’s.....yep, the console kept your girl at arms length....
When you had the muffler shop weld on your new pipe cap cutouts, what was the first
problem that you discovered with them? What was the second problem that you discovered
later? First thing you discovered was they were hotter than one shop towel would keep you from getting burned....the second thing that they corroded shut over time
What model of Atlas tire was known for being sticky and giving good traction?
Yep, Bucron......sticky tire for the day
In the early NHRA stock eliminator days, why did guys run mufflers and tailpipes?
Yep, it was a rule
What did you used to use Pledge for? Actually, it could be used on the dash board too as a poor mans Armor All. Drag racers used it on the quarter panels
Why did Jr. Stock guys run a front license plate? NOBODY KNOWS? I'll bet Tech remembers
How many head gaskets did Chevy put on a 425 HP 409 head from the factory? This is an easy one.
What size pin did you use to align your Hurst shifter (Hurst sold the alignment pin) I think it was 1/4", I will have to measure mine. The real hurst tool was an "L" shaped rod...a bolt
was a tad looser fit. Even with the OEM Hurst shifters without the stops, the linkage adjustment was much better using the pin.
In AHRA, you could have multiple classes labeled “A/Stock” Why? What was their
highest “formula”? NO AHRA guys?
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
