    472 into the monte sensors

i am finally ready to install the 472. but now i have a different problem. i do not know where my sensors go on the 472. the 472 have 4 wires at different locations on it. my pos haynes manual does not tell me what these are for. i have a set of autometer gauges in the monte. i have the tach, oil pressure, and tempature gauges. where do i hook these up on the engine. and how do i do it. the engine sensors are just wires with a clip on the end that plugs into the engine.

Barb, one of the things that I have found most helpful in doing engine swaps is to secure the factory service manuals for both cars. They can be worth their weight in gold sometimes. I have always used Faxon Auto Literature and so I looked up the manual for your Cadillac. I used '72 because I know the 472 was produced in '72, although your motor may be a different year. The cheapest you could come out on it would be the CD for 30 bucks, instead of the hard paper copy, which costs more. At least you could make copies of the CD to use outside and not ruin a good paper manual. This CD has the electrical system in it, so it should lead you in the right direction as to what the 4 wires are and where they go.

barb .. if you have aftermarket gauges then simply adapt the caddy motor to them .. if you have factory gauges still do that .. .. go to your favorite parts store and look thru their brass adapter section and make some chevy sending units fit ..gauges dont know what kind of sending unit is feeding them .. my chevy V6 in my pinto has stock chevy sending units feeding my ford temp & oil pressure lites and they work fine
iv`e used up all my sick days at work .. can i call in dead ?

the oil sending unit can go wherever caddy had it .. the temp unit i think another thread has decided needs to be in the front of the intake as most are from the factory

Barb, the oil pressure sender goes in the back of the block about centered below the intake manifold (the hole in the block is 1/8" pipe if I remember correctly).

There should be a threaded hole in the drivers side head a little to the right of the distributer that can be used for the temp sender with the appropriate size bushing.

You will need to use the Monte senders for the guages to work properly.

The Tach signal wire will go to the distributer side of the coil if your running points or the tach terminal on the distributor if you have HEI.

By the way Hoss the Caddy intake is dry (no coolant flows thru it).

Hi again. I may have mis-spoke a bit yesterday on the temp sender.

The location I was talking about (see red arrow) is the location used for one of the emissions control valves that goes into the water jacket and it is definitely suitable for your auto meter temp gauge.

The problem is I believe your engine is a bit older than mine and may not have a hole in that location. If that is the case, the place you will find the factory temp sender is under the AC compressor, behind the water pump (yes you have to remove the compressor to access it).
