My kids are like that too.
When my daughter was 5-6 she could calculate rear gear ratios.
She is now 10 and the boy is 7, they both have an account where they are saving for their first cars (I don't buy anything for them, I provide jobs and pay well).
The boy wants a 68 Mustang, the girl wants a VW bug.

good for you. i also believe that kids should earn their way. i brought my son a 86 z28 with a blown engine. he has put my old montes engine in and has to buy every part that it needs and do the labor.BARB

Wow Barb I missed this thread. Just posting to be able to follow the progress! I know what it's like not having your assistant around when you need them!
My wife pretty much gets bent out of shape if I ask for help(though usually she does help) but keeps asking "is that it? Can I go now?"
You definately have to video the start up for us!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

I just take peoples words and twist them a little to have fun with it.
Barb's been here a long time and know some of us like to joke around.
And she is always a good sport about it, Though I don't want to throw
this thread in the wrong direction. I too am waiting for that start up video
on that big motor.

I am sure there are plenty of folks on here that can tell you that, but wirring is not my strong point either. You might ask Big Truck Driver to help with that he helped me with a engine run stand wirring diagram.
Maybe it will help you here it is. Kurt

thanks vara that helps but i know how to wire the monte the old way. just lost at trying to figure out how to put the coil in the loop. i have a voltage regulator that i have always wired directly to. the coil has a wire going to the distributor. then 3 wires one black, one red, and one yellow hanging off of it. it is a non hei distrubitor and i do not know what to do with it.BARB

The negative side of the coil is the small wire to the distributor-tach wire goes on this post, too. The positive side of the coil is a wire from the "on" terminal of your ignition switch.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Barb was you Monte HEI or points.
If it was a points set up, just extend the wire that originally connected to the external coil to the coil on the caddy engine (+ side of the Coil).
If the Monte was HEI, extend the the wire that plugged into the distributor (usually a heavy red wire to the + side of the coil, That should get then engine started.......but (there is always one of those isn't there) in the long run you will need to add an external resistor in line to the coil, otherwise you will quickly burn the points up (if it had been a point distributor originally the wire that originally connected to the external coil is a resistor wire and does not a na external resistor). If you need a resistor just ask for one from any 60's chrysler product and wire it in.
As far as the regulator it should be plug and play....but (there's that damn word again) what does the plug in on the back of the alternator look like? If the plug on the Monte Carlo wiring harness look like this. l l . it's an external regulator alternator If the plug looks like this _ _ it's an internal regulator. Just make sure you have the correct alternator and it should plug in just like it did to the original Monte alternator. If the plug is one way and the alternator is the other, just get the correct alternator to make it work.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

Well I do know one thing about them resisters.
If you have one in your wirring for a HEI it will cause it to miss fire after a few seconds of the car being started like my Vette does. Because it starts cutting back on the power and depriving your spark needed. And if you don't have it on a old points set up in a little while you won't have any points left you'll just burn them up. I have replaced every wire on either side of my new MSD in the old Vette except the wire that goes to the key and it's still missing. Took it to a Vette shop for them to fix and it is still missing. It's been a real pain in the behind.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
