On the other hand, it's a chance to live in an exotic place, and there's BAH and BAS.

If you like TV, though, AFN isn't all that great.

And the best part is that he has already done his service in a lot more dangerous places, so you will probably sleep a lot better at night, knowing they are both much safer. What a great experience for him also.

I have a hard time thinking of Okinawa as exotic although there is a lot to explore as long as you don't run afoul of the natives. They really don't want us there and I can understand why as we haven't been the gracious of guests.

I sleep a hellva lot better now.

    BUT............................

Knowing he is in Force Recon & having a real idea what he does(I won't tell his mom) I do sleep uneasy at times. But hey he loves what he is doing & that's all that matters to me. And how could I not be PROUD of him....joe

Joe, I was there TDY a few times in the late 80s, but with the Air Force. Not a bad place to visit and a lot of neat stuff to see. Ask him if he has been to Charlie's Tacos on the "Strip". Driving is different as it is on the wrong side of the road. Not a bad place to be all things considered.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

    Thumbs up

"The Rock", Charlies tacos, Ozekies for beef, Gate 2 street. Lots of time there while in the Air Force. Started out working F-100's @ Kadena, then transitioned to the F-105's, 18thTFW. TDY's to Yokota /Misawa. Back again in SAC with the SR-71's,"HABU'S. Retired, went back as a ciilian A&P with a tow target operation, lots of changes, but a lot worse places one could be. When Reversion did come about, a lot of good things came to be, utilities, water, sanitation, etc. Japaneese Govt said no rusted out multi colored cars, 2 of us slung Bondo and painted cars in the back of the Habu hangar / complex, used surplus blue and white so color choices were few, but our rates were LOW.
