Damn that looks sore. Hurts just looking at it. Hope you've got some good Irish whiskey to dull the pain.Remember, Freedom isn't Free, thousands have paid the price so you can enjoy what you have today.

Thanks sleeve 396. i was thinking i was just a machine work all the time . maybe just abit worn out and some rust but in still some what working order . but after i got burnt i now know i just a human. this is not a big deal a bump in life s road . i could be dead or burnt up alot more then i was . i am all most heal up now after well over a month time. and one hell of a bill that one or 10 engine s will not cover. just for a $75 job in the shop . heres one thing i think alot about if you work for your self and you can not buy insurance or like me get screwed to the point were you can not buy it any more doing a honest job.. sell drugs .i think i may not be the same baptism by fire so to speak. i have had alot of time to think .maybe to much time . if any of you think this was a dumb thing well maybe i was. but have welded for 30 +years. welded any thing and every thing never had this happen. i always think about were and what when i weld . were sparks could go and have water on hand and fire extinguishers all over my shop after welding or grinding i do not leave for a hour or more .so i know every thing is ok . i just was welding just a small weld over all 5 inch weld on a welding table at 200 amps dc+ 1/4 rod no big deal ?. if you can go thru life never getting burned take my word.. do soLast edited by pat mccarthy; 12-13-2010 at 11:40 PM.

Good to hear you're doing OK Pat.
"...... with the two bad disc s and bad shoulders and fibro i did not need a bad weather indicter but i got another one....."
I know what you mean, everytime it gets cold and wet here I'm reminded of every stupid thing I did over the years.
I think they lied to us about the golden yearI've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

I'm glad you're doing better, burns sure suck, I've never had anything bigger than a silver dollar, but even something that small the healing process sucks.
I have a nice welding jacket my uncle bought me, still with tags on my hook at the wash sink, because I wanted to keep it nice. stupid! you'd think I'd know better. From now on though I'll wear it.
I'm curious about the fabric, it looks like standard flannel, and not new (the fuzzies on new flannel can be dangerous too) but I wonder if it is a blend and/or stain/water repellant? I have a theory about those things is the reason I ask.
I say for a shop, cotton, plain cotton, or maybe hemp. but never anything synthetic and nothing treated. I once was using a grinding to cut a piece out of the back of a computer cabinet (I was on way to work, had forgotten to do the night before) and was wearing my slacks. standard khaki type, semi-casual/dress, stain repellant and wrinkle free. Wasn't wearing a shop apron as was a fast deal and I thought I'd be out the door. I feel heat on my crotch, figure it's from some of the sparks coming my way. I look down, the crotch of my pants was on fire!!!!!!! I quickly tapped it out with my hand, my underwear underneath were black and my nuts were uncomfortable all day even though they were only red. very close call. Since then I've always worn jeans or my cotton dickies.
Now I'll wear the welding jacket too.

all shirts were cotton not oil covered and were clean. i was not washing any thing in the shop to get on the shirts. like honing oil.that welding job was the first job of the day and the last followed by many fun days till i had skin back were it needed to be .its all behind me i care not to think much about it now . looking at the shirts it seams the t shirt may have lit off first . i was not welding long 2 minutes max .i can say after going threw this you can not put your self out fast enoughIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

Just a tip to those that are running out to buy welding jackets shirts what ever... I have one and wear it all the time. It keeps sparks and chunks of weld from burning you... ON the bad news if a spark or somthing goes down the sleve it will not burn through and fall to floor it WILL stay there and burn you. You just have to be carful safety equipment is only good so far. Sorry to hear of this happening to anyone.. I had 2 friends die from the burns of a welding accident.Charlie
Lovin' what I do and doing what I love

While not even in the same league with Pat, I had a little incident over the weekend.
I was welding up the new exhaust on Jeff's camaro welding a seam over the rear end. What I thought was a spark fell on my stomach. I figured no big deal, I'm wearing a jacket, it won't be a problem. Turns out it was bigger than I thought. It landed on the zipper of my jacket. It wasn't a problem for a few seconds but then all of a sudden OUCH. The "big spark" had melted through the zipper, but not before heating up and melting loose 6-8 zipper teeth. So now I have several hot objects everywhere inside my jacket because I'm squirming around doing damage control. Now I have a shirt (and stomach) that looks like it was shot by a little shotgun @ close range.
Just about ready to settle back down on the creeper to continue welding and got zapped again in the back by a few persistent pieces that were still hot enough to make a second mark.
Again, nothing like Pat went through, but his ordeal was the first thing I thought of as I began to smolder.
The old jacket was no big deal, it was about shot anyway. The shirt on the other hand was brand new."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

Glad to hear you're back to normal, Pat, whatever normal is. As we get older, I think, God gives us these little barometers so we can keep dry or warm, or whatever; when we're young, it never seems to affect us, but as we age, we find it is much nicer to keep dry and warm - not too warm, though - , hence the reminders.Rrumbler, Aka: Hey you, "Old School", Hairy, and other unsavory monickers.

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
