Mercedes at SEMA
At the SEMA show, a Merc 190SL was in a booth. This car, built by Randy Clark and his guys at Hot Rods and Custom Stuff in Escondido was pretty amazing.

As you can read from the web page, they took a 2004 V12 Twin Turbo Merc and put the 1961 body on it....except that the new chassis was too long and too wide. Up close, the thing was darned detailed.....from 20 feet, it looked like an old Mercedes. The wheels were machined to look like the old hubcaps and the Merc tristar emblem rotated so that it stayed upright when the car was moving....high class spinners.
The bumpers, grille, door handles, tail light bezels, head light rims, etc were all machined and polished. After the SEMA show, they took it to some vintage race in Vegas....and ran the thing around the track in traffic.
Neat car.....must have cost at least two PowerBall winning tickets.

I didnt ask Randy what it cost but, it says he had over 4000 hours in it and I would expect a compentent shop to charge at least $100 per AND they had a considerable bill from the CNC shop and the aluminum supplier AND they had a tad of sheet metal to buy AND the hop up stuff from Renspeed isnt cheap, he probably had something north of a half mil in the build......but....look up "sleeper" in the dictionary and it should have a pic of this car. Imagine tooling along Hwy 1 with the top down and some clown in a ricer pulls up....and you dust his butt in an old 190 Merc!!! The ricer boy would have a mental breakdown.
At SEMA, I asked Randy if he had driven it yet, he said that they had just finished it and he drove it from the trailer into the show location....
