Dogs Know (great story)
Dogs know ....

Lucky Dog....
Anyone who has pets will really like this. You'll like it even if you don't and you may even decide you need one!
Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.' Lucky was a real character.
Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.

Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box.
It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease......in fact; she was just sure it was fatal.
She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her....what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through.
If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him! The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.
The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.
Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap..
Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.
When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned!
While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life.
He had covered her with his love.
Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky. He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure.

Remember.....live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget....the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care for us.

Barb,
These pets are tuned in for sure. One of our Cats was missing for two nights and three days his buddy was lost he was acting really sad, one of the other Cats came up to him and was licking his head. As my wife showed me this story this morning I looked over my shoulder and there was Blackie at the window. Needless to say the other Cats gave him a warm welcome. I know people will say this stuff is crazy but if they have ever had a pet they will understand.

I understand all the dog and cat stuff... My poor little Cocker Spaniel went through a bed spell last week with his back. Had him to the vet for the laser treatment, and some updates on his anti-inflammatory drugs. He's almost back to his normal self now after a week of being carried in and out to answer nature's call. His first day back on the healthy side, I was in my recliner with Pepper on my lap and licking my hand. Guess it's his way of saying thanks. Girlfriend was telling everyone that now she has 2 old crippled dogs to take care of and when one of us dies she'll probably have to have the other one put to sleep!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

We had a small dachshund and her back went out also, she would move just enough to let me know she had to go outside and I would carry her very carefully in and out.
The same dog would stay with me when I had my back surgery, she would lie against my body cast.

Thanks Richard for the story of Lucky. I believe it is a measure of ones humamity to have close pets and treat them like family. Mum and I would be totally lost without our Nelson and even though blind he certainly has excellent hearing and knows exactly where in the house you are.
Sorry to here about poor little Pepper to Dave and I hope he is recovering quickly after all he has that chevy to guard.
And thanks also to you Glenn for your little prayer as it never ceases to amaze me how loving and affectionate dogs are even when you are angry with them.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Her owners had to give Her up due to the fact they had to move to France and Pit Bulls are not allowed there with out special Papers . And to top that she is an older dog will be 8 in a few days . So She would be one of the Last Dogs to get a home at the shelter that I adopted Her From . I was told that Her owners cried their eye's out having to Leave Her . I e-mail them often in France with Photos to Let them know She is much Loved in Her New Home . She might not be so young But man does she have unreal Power for a 55Lbs Dog . Great story and it shows how intuitive animals are. We had two kittens that started showing up at our shop along with about 6 more that come every night for dinner. We called the black kitten Blackie and the black and white one Chewy. They would come every night and we kept toys in the shop for them to play with until we left for the night. About a week ago Blackie stopped coming and his Brother, Chewy looks lost. You never saw one without the other, but now he is all alone. We have no idea if someone adopted Blackie, or if something bad happened, but we can only hope he got a good home.
Animals are just the best.

Great story Richard. Hit true to home, as my wife's mom is suffering from breast cancer as we speak. I wish she had a pet to comfort her, but she does enjoy visits from our dogs. They just lean up against her wanting to be pet!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
