I like this plan better! Question was the 348 an option for the trucks in the 60's?
-

Yes it was - the 348 was a truck and industrial service (like irrigation pumps, etc) engine that got shifted into passenger car duty in 1958 and remained in service well into the '60's in trucks (1964 I think). But the one shown is a 305V6 torque monster - looks a lot like the 348/409 valve covers though, doesn't it?Last edited by rspears; 01-14-2011 at 06:52 AM.

no it doesn't look like 348/409 valve covers
The V6 GMC truck engines were strictly truck engines---weren't even 90 *
And the 348 was for cars---later low compression 348/409 were industrial for trucks, buses, pumps---the 396/427 put the 348-409 outta the hotrodders quest for power

Cool project, I got a 61 Apache 3/4t farm truck that I have shortened to a shorted.
Does your truck have torsion bar front suspension? Can't wait to see more. How many lumps ya want with that?

pretty decent deal.
it needs a little more then i expected but easy fix, 1st thing im going to do is slap a 73-87 clip under it for front disc brakes, and then later a dual resivoir master cylinder.
yeah still torsion bar's going to convert it to a newer front end. for safety sakes. IF i keep this one, i will definatley be putting power brakes and ps on it.
ill use it for a hauler for the nova, OR when dave gets his gasser done itll be an era correct chase rig!!! im thinking chrome reverse and some tuck n roll!Last edited by gassersrule_196; 01-15-2011 at 04:38 AM.

I have a 66. After I converted mine to disc, the hard way, I read where you can actually just bolt the front suspension right on the 60 to 66 frame. You might check the tech articles at Classic Trucks, and Custom Classic Trucks. You just pull the entire front crossmember with suspension attached. Of course I might have just dreamed that too........

There is a benefit to using the '67-'72 Front ( '70-'71 disc optional- '72 all had I think ). but I can't remember what it isYou don't know what you've got til it's gone
