Although a bit before my time, I was not yet 2 when they passed, I do enjoy their music. Buddy was way ahead of his time in the way he recorded. And I really wish Richie had not been taken so early, as there is not alot recorded, but I really like what there is. I'll go crank em up right now..........
A bit of trivia........... the fellow who gave up his seat on the plane for Richie was Waylon Jennings..........

First of all thanks for posting this Gasser - - -
today is kind of a bitter sweet one for me
because my first born grandaughter has a
birthday today. However, I was a Senior in H.S.
when they died that fateful night and I remember
it all too well. Before getting popular Jape had a
Teen Radio Dance Show out of a Station in the
Beaumont Area and on a good reception day
we would tune in and sometimes throw open
the car doors and dance in the parking lot.
I have lots of memorabilia and stuf - - -
some is framed and hanging in my shop over
looking my '55 and keeping the Elvis stuff company
and some of it is still in my computer waiting for me
to print frame and display.
Take notice of 'ol Waylon in a couple of these pics.
I'll bet he carried the memory of that coin toss
to his way too early grave.
Anyhow, here is a little of that stuff from 2-3-59
that I would like to share with Y'all.

Funny how you remember some events above all others. I was 14 and had a small blue transistor radio with an earphone on it and heard the news of their death on that. Our local radio station played all of their songs non stop for something like a day to memorialize them. Things happening like this now aren't such a big dea, we've become desensitized it seems, but back then it was like personal friends had passed away.
Thanks for the reminder and the links.

Exactly, Don, and it was that way when Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkin's plane went down too..

Yep, and the halls at school were very somber and sad. Things were just a little more gentle back then...........today it's just another one bit the dust.
