Our oldest girl has moved down to ChCh a month ago to do a course at polytech. She txt,d Tina to say she was okay but people had just been crushed in front of her, not so good for an 18 yr old. She is making her way back up here somehow over the next few days. Best wishes and luck to you Annmarie and Gerard.

Pleased to hear she's OK Bathy.... but what a hell of an ordeal for a 18 year old to go through....
All the best,

Yep Todds OK Moose,so far I haven't heard of any HotRodders being injured or killed.....................but rest assured there could well be.
Bloody Crims & Looters are at it again too...............They will hope they get caught by Police rather some concerned locals as the injuries they might sustain will just be considered an Earth Quake related one.....People have no paitance with these @*seholes.

All the best,
I'm picking Hannah will be one of many who have witnessed some horrendous scenes. Just had a call from her, has found a few bruises that didn't register til she has sat and taken a breath, will be good to see her tommorrow night.

Was talking to my uncle in Blenheim tonite.
Both my cousins and fambly live in Chch.
All safe, 2 houses little and some damage. Commercial bldg fine.
Denise's husband is Judge Rob Murfitt, he was not residing and at lunch when it hit!
I hope he applies the full force when judging those #$%^& looters!
They had moved from Taranaki (heard of that place...??) to Chch in Nov. last year, up on the hill above Sumner.....
Other fambly down there are also AOK.

condolences anne marie
Well I got some really good news a few hours ago, a very very good family friend who Ive know my whole life is well and unharmed - and now the official missing list is one less with an alive one. Mum finally got in contact with her. She was heading to the CTV building at lunch to pick up some classic motorcyle racing DVDs she had got compiled and decided to post her letters before going inside. She was posting the letters across the road from the CTV building instead of walking into it when it fell. She ran down Cashel street to get away and two people in front of her were crushed by falling buildings, then an after shock came as she lost it, grabbed the hand of the closest guy and he took her to Latimer Square (thank you mate whoever you are). She just been at home since.
She was one of the people missing in the CTV building list as she was meant to be there so I am very very very glad she had some mail to post, someone was looking down on her that day (twice)

Man thats good news B1..................today at the funeral we talkrd to lots of family & friends who were in the city at the time and class themselves very, very lucky.Annmaries brother was just going into a carpaking building when it struck, thenstarted running to meet his wife at a pre-arranged spot(since sept 4)near the avon ,as her office is on a 7th floor they took a while to get down the stairs and outside, stuff flying everywhere.......Back to David ,he's racing along, when he senses something beside him, turns his head, still running ,and heres a statue of some dude off his base doing a nosedive right beside him.....He got to their spot and Lynnette soon arrived.Everybody was heading to Hagley Park, but they headed toward Barbadus St then down to the railway line and followed that to linclon Rd and walked most of the way home to Halswell...............Davids firm who are handling all the FMG Insurance claims for EQ,have already taken out a 4yr lease on a single story office block at Hornby and are starting back on mon.
Before leaving the city David saw ordenary people going into the rubble of that PGC building and bringing out about 8 people, before any rescue guys arrived(not that they were slow).
Some other family are involed in rescues and some are nurses too.The good stories far outway the bad.Could of been 1000's killed really.Lots of those people will never want to work in highrise buildings again.
The funeral was very fitting for Lydia,as she had planed most of it herself and since she was a bit of a hardcase the final song ,while the wheeled the coffin out was......"Another one bites the dust"......and then she was off to be cremated....had everyone in fits of laughter and some people said it was imposible to cry to a song like that

Thanks for all your thoughts everyone. Funerals are not nice to attend but this one was a little bit different from others that I have been too. The middle song was 'Somewhere over the rainbow" - check it out if you get a chance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O-LDea7SHY would recommend it for any funeral. Then all the grandchildren released a whole lot of balloons into the sky.
It was hard to believe when we went into ChCh that just across from the funeral home was all that drama going on.
Nice to see they named the looters as well. Theres also not nice stuff going on like some shops charging $7 for a 2litre of milk & a garage charging $3 a litre for petrol Don't they have a heart!Last edited by johnboy; 02-25-2011 at 08:29 PM.

Hi folks and thankyou for your prayers and blessings. As Robin mentioned Melanie,(ex-wife) is still listed in the number of missing.According to the Marsh Ins.Brokers web site they have three missing people still unaccount for in their office, one of those three will be Melz. The last communication anybody on the outside had with Melz, was she send a text message to a relative wishing them a happy birthday at 8 minutes before the earthquate struck. So we know she was inside the office as her lunch break started at 1.00pm. I'm still praying that she managed to get somewhere in the building where she is trapped but alive but the reports are just so difficult to take in at the moment. I myself have had a stinking head ach for the last few days which I put down to stress but until I know for sure what has happened I don't think it is going away. Melz new husband Steve and I have spoken over the phone and shared some tears together which I believe has helped both of us. Mutural friends in Christchurch have told me that he is such a nice guy and when I spoke to him I reassured him Melz wouldn't married him if he wasn't. Sorry to burden you with this and I am so thankful again for all your concern etc. Finally I must say that poor mum is really struggling with this as she has the start of dementia, and I have to tell her what is happening everytime the TV is turned on for updates.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

To Whiplash23T,My heart goes out you. This must be a very difficult time indeed, please know, us here in Canada are thinking about you folks over there.
One thing about this form that I noticed is that there is a very strong bonding and wanting to help among people far and near on here, that's more then just hot rods, you just don't find that everywhere.

We will continue to keep our fingers crossed that Melanie and all the others are found alive. When we hear about these sorts of things on the news it is one thing, but when it hits home and affects good friends, like those on here, it is something altogether different. Very sad situaltion.

Well it all just seems so unfair.
We are out on the western side of the city, and around here you wouldnt really know theres massive damage about 5 miles away. But Im in a house with power, phone, water & sewerage - the usual first world stuff.
Yesterday we got a crew of about 10 and went over to the beach suburbs on the east that took the hit and its like the third world over there. We helped a guy make his house weatherproof because its going to be the only place he and his wife will have for some time as this cleanup will take years & he wants to be in his community. The sports clubs 20 miles out of town are waiting to help the displaced, but nobody seems to want to leave what little they have left.
My wife was over distributing free food in one of the other poorer beach suburbs and that area looks like a war zone.
The relief effort is huge, and well co-ordinated. There were helicopters flying in hot food to avoid the roads & we have something like 5000 porta-loos either here, or on the way for those in the city.
Then we got in our car, drove back across town to "normality". Its a strange strange situation.

The efforts of the international community have been awesome, (thanks to you all) as has the help coming in from all over New Zealand. We are not alone in our suffering.
I dont want to sound like Im making light of anything, but certainly having an earthquake in a developed nation with the USA as a friend, and Australia as our brothers is a good idea.
I can not imagine how tough it is for the survivors in Haiti......

Good morning to all my friends,or maybe that should be good evening/night.
As Todd has already mentioned and both Lifestylz (Clive) and Johnboy supported I would really like to thank everybody for their support in not only the rescue personel and equipment that your countries have speedily send out to us but also for your prayers and good wishers. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart.
It is the 1st of March today(5.00am) so at 12.51pm we as a united nation will be stopping for 2 minutes silence in memory of those lost 7 days ago in that shocking earthquake.
Melanie, my ex-wife is sadly still listed agmonst the missing so I would still thankyou for your prayers please.
I'm gone to try getting involved on here again to take my mind off the depressing news. On a positive,I have my pre-op tests and talk with the surgery team on the 22nd of March, so at long last we have action on that front.
Well guys, sorry but you are stuck with me again.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.
