I'm watch TV tonight and I saw Brian Williams report on price hikes across the US.Now this is nation wide news broadcast. He follows this report with the reason is the unrest in Libya. That country only provides 2% of the worlds oil and it is mostly for Europe.

Now if a old guy like me knows that.........why the hell doesn't he understand that. Why does the oil that mostly goes to Europe effect your pricing.Yeah-yeah,shortage of supply by 2%.2% man.

I am baffled by the fact we seem to accept illogical reasons for this pricing."It's kind of like well the gas price went up and now we gots to go by a hybird".Hey wait a minute, ant that like giving up before putting up a fight??.Maybe guys like me aren't in that mind frame anymore.

Thing is........if someone is going to "try" to stick in my butt......They better have a better reason than B.S.

All the system operates on the simplistic thought that if only one thing happens........we are going to run out of oil and then the price goes up.Kind of like the oil spill the last time.Oh no,oh no.......chineese fire drill.Question should have been how much did that platform produce of the world total supply. Not much huh.

Beyond my control??.Sure is alone. We've lost our elected officials. But when it seems we have lost our news broadcasts and reporting too,I think it is time to start laying the first bricks for a rebuild.Economic terrorism is certainly a very good reason to take up arms.

Think about how we got here.Detached and accepting every increase.Passive all along the way.No consequences to the way things are going.Recent reports are when the price gets to $4.00 people are more reluctant to purchase gas.$4.00????.Say What???.Soooooo,we have set a limit????.Yrs ago, well not really yrs ago,my limit was $2.99.What the hell??.

And we just continue to take it and take it some more.I remember studying while in school about the gas rations during WW II.You know,I would rather have that at a reasonable price than continuing the way we are.Tell some of these countries that their biggest customer isn't buying anymore.

Lost the .2 drop from last week. Back to $3.49.

Not buying gas wold have a profound affect IF you could get everybody to do it and IF you could string a few days together (months would be even better). But that would be about like telling everybody to stop breathing at the same time to reduce levels of C02 .

we need to pick ONE oil company to boycott--then they'll lower there price and the others will follow.

From some info I've had forwarded to me by a couple former folks that were in the oil business----Mobil/Exxon now Shell is the American company----if we stop buying from them, it will get to DC very quickly for a fix---also since they won't be selling the amount of gas left over for the independants goes up and we'll soon get the prices lowered across the board.
Now I know your thinking why not do the the foreigners BP, Citco-----but we don't need to solve the worlds problems, just ours---this is the first and only thing that we can do to get AMERICA back on track because we get to vote every tank full instead of every 4 years---

    Your thoughts????

Kind of a bland article, but this does note some of what is lost when expensive crude oil makes for very expensive gas and diesel:

"Turmoil in the Middle East and elsewhere has pushed oil prices up more than $20 per barrel in recent weeks, and average gasoline prices from less than $3 a gallon to about $3.60. All the additional cash spent on imported oil that does not return to buy exports translates into lost demand for U.S. goods and services, lost growth and fewer jobs.

Most economists built some increase into 2011 GDP forecasts, but the recent surge, if it sticks through the spring, will reduce U.S. growth from 3.5- 4%to 3-3.5%, perhaps less. Overall, that translates into at least 600,000 fewer jobs, or nearly 50,000 a month.

Moreover, lost taxes exacerbate federal and state budget problems.

U.S. policy arbitrarily limits the development of domestic oil and gas, and the more rapid deployment of abundant domestic natural gas. Premised on false assumptions about the immediate viability of electric cars and alternative energy sources, such as solar panels and windmills, these make the U.S. economy more vulnerable, Americans poorer, raise unemployment and do little to raise environmental standards. Instead of drilling in places the U.S. government can regulate, development goes abroad to places where U.S. enforcement has no teeth.

In combination, limits on conventional energy development and excessive optimism about alternative energy technologies are making the United States even more dependent on imported oil and more indebted to China and other overseas creditors to pay for it."

My truck is nicely garaged and out of the weekly snow storms - and will get driven on "dump day" mostly since the 10%+/- ethanol gas has nudged the DD mileage from 10.4 or so down to 9.2 on a nice day. Even my wife's Escape went from 18 down to 15-16 with that false economy crap gas.
