Here's a younger one that comes up on the deck and I put food out for him every evening.
His name is "Fluffball"
There's a family of about 3 that hang around here.
The hiss is just a "bluff".
Ever heard of playing "Possum"?
They are harmless and have a face that only a Mother can love.

I had one of my Boxer pups in the back yard and two possom's came out from some bushes and tried to get her. My old male boxer that was 12 at the time killed both possoms in about one minute. He was not having any of that on his watch.
Boxer's are excellent catch dog's, they are very fast and agile.

I'll probably get plummeted after this one but here goes anyhow. First of all, they are not rodents. As a matter of fact they eat mice, rats, snakes and other less desirables of God's creatures. In reality they are really Nature's Sanitation Agents.
Here is a video explaining just exactly what? and who? they are. YES, the Rocky Soundtrack sucks so just turn your volume off, that is, if you even care to be informed.

I was born and raised way out in the country in East Texas a loooong, loooong time ago. Most of the countrys kids ran some form of a trap line and Possum was the probably most caught of all of those critters. The Possum hide would bring .50¢ on in a average winter and .75¢ on a real cold one, not bad really back in the early 50's when a grown man with a family was making $2.25 or so an hour. A lot of folks ate the Possums as well, ,to some it was a real treat back in the day. Possum and Sweet Potatos is an old southern dish that goes way back. I must say I have tried it myself, not going to say it taste like chicken either and as long as they make cows and chickens--Never Again....
RSProtected people will never know or understand the intensity life can be lived at. To do that you must complettly and totally understand the meaning of the word "DUCK"

I could write a book on my experiences with the opossums and coons,
and some are real funny.....Anytime you feed a pet outdoors, you are
apt to attract about any kind of varmint, and cat food isn't cheap either.

When it comes to Possum and Sweet Taters, I'm with you, Hombre - - - - - however, a young and tender fried Racoon with some Collard Greens is a different story..
