Barnsey - I hope those sheep shearer's aren't going to use the place after all the hard work you did on the floors! Beautiful job by the way! I think I wouldn't return there without a shotgun and a case of shells! I hate snakes! That video you put up of the guy barefoot playing with one of those brown snakes was crazy! I wonder how many times he has been bitten playing with those things?
I also wouldn't want to go out to a trip to the shower or toilet when it's dark and you can't see the slippery crawly things!
The wood on those floors is gorgeous, what is it?
Anyway wishing you a safe journey out of that place!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Barnsey, beautiful work. What type of wood is that? When I first looked at it I thought it was pine, but the more I look at it the more it looks like cedar.

you were right in thinking it was pine. it is in fact Cyprus Pine, lots of House's being built using Cyprus these days, they use it for wall and roof trusses joist and flooring, termites hate the stuff and it is very rare to find any termite or white ant damage in Cyprus, unlike most hardwoods which termites and white ants seem to love,
cheers barnsey.
p.s nearly forgot, we were sitting on the front porch having a cup of coffee at about 9am when a Red Bellied Black snake about 7ft long came cruising out of the bush and went under the house, my reflexes were a little to slow so i missed out on the opportunity to take a photo or get the shovel, just makes you realise how careful you need to be out here in the woods (bush) you need to keep your eyes wide open when walking around out here.

the photos are taken wet, but the gloss and reflections are the same when it is dry, lustapol is a high gloss 2k finish, some people like a semi gloss or satin finish or even tung oil and i do all of those finishes as well.
the photo of the floor below was taken about a week after i had sanded and applied 2 coats of tobys lustapol 2k gloss, I drop in there every six months to see how it is standing up to the high traffic as it is a public hall and it is still looking pretty good.
these are the before and after shots.
cheers barnsey
and another hall, this hall is part of the united church in my town.

this floor has a mix of kerosene linseed oil and a bit of black japan to give it a rustic type of feel.
any way i am hoping to have the first coat on the homestead tomorrow afternoon, is that the time whoops 138 am thursday, i mean today ready to finish off tomorrow Friday morning, then i will be looking forward to loading up the van and heading back home to civilisation and my own bug less snake less home, hopefully my best mate.............Dodge my cattle dog remembers who i am, then i am going to be spending a week out in my shed working on my car, i need to get it finished and back on the road as i am having withdrawal symptoms and need a hot rod fix.

When we were kids we loved to get on those kinds of floors in our socks and do some "slidin and glidin".

Those frogs would be quite startling with snakes on your mind!

guilty as charged, when i was a kid of about 7, we used to play ten pin bowling down the hallway with toilet rolls as the pins, and kittens as the balls you would think at 7 years old we would have had more sense, no kittens were ever harmed in our games and we used to think it was funny watching them try to dig there claws in as they spun out of control down the hallway trying to stop.
I would probably give my own son a stern talking to if i ever caught him doing it today, and if my father had ever caught me doing it back then i would hate to think what would of happened .

Very warm looking, more my taste.
I really like the way wood responds. When we did the remodel of our current house I laid down a wood floor of reclaimed, old growth, tight grain fir. Resawn from timbers that had been barrel racks in a whiskey distillery. Did a similar satin finish to what you show here though the fur comes up a bit redder.
Did a deck in Ipe with a satin finish that looked great when we first put it down, but hasn't weathered as well. I end up redoing it about every other year or so. Looks spectacular when freshly done though.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.

Bob we have an ipe deck too. Seems to take stain better after a few years wear and tear. Great stuff. There are better stains every year that seem to penetrate deeper, and last longer, it just is very tight grained and has a lot of natural resins too, but what a great deck wood, yours looks very nice."
