Tsunami
Well Japan got hit with a 9.0 earth quake and got nailed by a Tsunami.
Now we are waiting to see what happens in Hawaii where my daughters family and my brothers family live. Then we are supposed to get hit here in the states on the west coast. And of course I am on the west side of Florida.
Now a Nuclear plant in Japan is having problems and the water system is failing so they are trying to get people away from it now.
It looks like this maybe a busy week for everyone.

Just got done talking to our son who is in Japan. He said they were ok & that the wave they got hit by was only maybe 5ft tall. He said Tokyo was destroyed & they are sending military over to help.
BUT the funniest thing was when his wife called us & said she had evacuated and got their dog in her car & he started to eat & looking at her like WTF is going on...Last edited by TooMany2count; 03-11-2011 at 09:42 AM. Reason: can't speel

I just heard a Coast Guardsman from Hawaii say that they were busy trying to warn everyone because it was predicted to hit there very soon. It was 2:30am in Hawaii when I heard that broadcast..

Lots of activity up and down the Pacific fault lines, could get even more interesting.
For those who've not seen this sort of thing here's a glimpse from earlier this morning:

Tsunami racing toward California, Oregon and Washington
by barnsey on Fri Mar 11, 2011 11:48 pm
The National Weather Service(NWS) has issued a tsunami or tidal wave warning for Hawaii and the entire west coast of the United States. The warning comes in response to a magnitude 8.9 earthquake that jolted Japan early this morning.
The tsunami, say the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)is expected to begin arriving on the west coast at approximately 7:10 am PST, in Washington and Oregon. Within minutes the wave, moving from west to east, will begin impacting California. Hawaii is expected to see the leading edge of the tsunami just before 3:00 am local time.
The peak height of the water is measured in terms of height above normal sea level, not peak to trough level. The popular notion that the initial wave strike is the most dangerous part of the tsunami is not true according to the NWS. The NWS says tsunamis strike as a series of waves with the strongest often coming later in the series.
Each wave can force more water inland, much like an extraordinary tide or storm surge rushing in. The exact height of the wave is difficult to predict because it is highly dependent upon the topography of the coasts in its path.
The wave has already started to impact Alaska with an amplitude or height of 3.5 feet above normal sea level recorded at Shemya, Alaska. At present, the highest tsunami amplitude was recorded at Ofunato, Japan shortly after the earthquake that triggered the massive waves. In Ofunato, says the NWS, the wave measured as much as 10.7 feet above the normal sea level.
Boats along the coast of Japan were capsized and cars were swept from the roads by the inrushing tsunami waters. Casualties, including deaths have been reported from Japan, although it may be some time before accurate numbers can be given. Aftershocks continue to shake Tokyo and are expected to continue throughout the day.
The earthquake’s magnitude of 8.9 on the Richter Scale makes it one of the top 5 most powerful earthquakes of the last 100 years. It was centered at a depth of 12 miles off the coast of Honshu, Japan says the NWS. At this point, the west coast is under a tsunami warning, meaning that “a tsunami with significant widespread inundation is imminent or expected. Warnings indicate that widespread dangerous coastal flooding accompanied by powerful currents is possible and may continue for several hours after the initial wave arrival.”
Persons in coastal or low-lying areas within a tsunami warning zone should move immediately inland to higher ground away from all harbors and inlets including those sheltered directly fromt he sea, says the NWS. The imminient arrival of the tsunami may be preceded by the ground shaking or rapidly rising or falling water levels. The NWS further warns that small buildings do not represent protection from a tsunami as they are not designed to wiithstand such an event. Residents in an affected area should seek specific direction from local civil authorities.

For those not familiar with the "Ring of Fire" take a look at this: http://www.crystalinks.com/rof.html
Note that N.Z. is on the edge effectively due south of Japan, which is also on the edge of the Pacific plate. Follow the perimeter around and we could (not guarantee) be in for an interesting time.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Yep, they say this is the 5th most powerful earthquake in recorded history. Glad your family is ok there Joe, and pray yours in Hawaii is also ok, Kurt. Mother Nature sure has been teaching us some lessons lately, hasn't she?
We wish everyone well through this.

From Automotive News this am..
TOKYO -- Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. suspended production at plants in Japan today and were assessing damage after an 8.9-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast, triggering a tsunami and shaking buildings as far away as Tokyo.
The shutdown could affect exports to the United States of such cars as the Toyota Yaris sedan, the Scion XB and Scion XD, as well as the Honda Fit small car, the Accord sedan and CR-V crossover. The temblor also hit production of the Acura and Infiniti lineups.
Toyota, the world's largest carmaker, said it evacuated workers from several factories in the quake zone. Toyota has two parts plants in northern Japan and it has two affiliates, Kanto Auto Works, Ltd. and Central Motors Co., that assemble small cars in the region.
The immediate status of those plants was still being evaluated, Toyota spokesman Dion Corbett said. "We are still trying to get information from them," he said.
At least one person died at Honda's r&d facility, and fires erupted at two Nissan plants.
Spotty phone coverage inside the quake zone made it difficult for the companies to get a clear picture of how extensive the damage was. Authorities in northern Japan were just beginning to sift through the region's wreckage and tally the death toll when darkness fell.

People, Corporations and Countries are always struggling for more Power but whenever Mother Nature flexes her muscles like she did in Japan, it makes you realize where the REAL POWER really lies doesn't it?.
