Tommy lifts
Ok, so it wasn't a Tommy Lift, but it's similar. I might be renovating my old '83 Ford E-350 cube van for a Toter.... I've seen cube vans with a tommy lift type of deal....but on a side door for curb loading I suppose. I want it to use to lift my tool box and spare parts in from a side door so I can have just a plain old small back door with a fold down stairway....
Anyone know who makes them???Last edited by Dave Severson; 04-09-2011 at 07:47 AM.

Don't know anything about that, but a friend is looking for a new home for the 2-post hydraulic car lift he removed from his shop. He retired and it's for sale. I think he wants $1200 for it, not sure. Since you're in a tool and equipment buying mood, I thought I would mention it.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

Dave,
A Tommy Lift type generally hangs outside of the vehicle folded up which would not work so good on a side door and might not even be legal. How about a wheelchair lift? They tuck inside, and are build for ez on, ez off access. Not sure of their capacity - just a thought.
Tech,
Is the lift in AZ?Roger

I like Roger's idea. My sister just got a new van and when she was working out the trade of the old one the company told her that there was no value in the old lift even though it worked fine because regs have changed since it was built and for them to resell it would require an updated model. If there were such a company near you it might could be had for hauling away or at least scrap steel value. I don't know the lift specs, but I'd guess at least 400#, but could be higher.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Checked on them once, the capacity of the lift is ok, but my tool box is just waaaaaay too heavy!!!!!
The one I saw was the same concept, just much more heavy duty...I'll keep looking.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I have found that its far easier to just get a tool box and tools for the vehicle and leave the shop tools in the shop. There is way too much weight and unneccssary stuff in the shop box for the road/races

Did the race box/shop box for awhile....No matter what I wanted it was in the other box!!!! Kind of still have the same deal now. If I know it's a tool for an issue that I couldn' fix at the track it stays home, the other box is big and heavy, but I sure do like having it with me!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
