Mom's Day and the Kentucky Derby !
I guess that since I recently lost my Mom in January of this year, Mother's Day is hitting me pretty hard this year. All my memories are good ones so it's all good except for missing her so much. She really enjoyed her cards and saved them all (trust me when I say ALL) and I even caught myself browsing thru the Mom's Day cards this week wondering which one would make her smile the most.
The reason I mentioned the Kentucky Derby in the subject title was because my Mom loved horse racing and especially the run for the "Triple Crown". Every year she would get the paper and figure out how many horses were running and then she would call all of us kids and get us into the "Pot". It was only a dollar a horse and the family doing this together was "priceless". Anyhow, she would put the names of all the horses in a hat - - probably my Dad's ugly Bob Wills clone, and then she would draw the horses out for each of us and then call and tell us what horses we had so we could cheer and enjoy the Race much more. The times that we were all able to get together in their Den was by far the best - - - - only to be exceeded by the Texas - OU college football game every year.
Don't forget to tell your Mom's that you love them and thank them for putting up with you all these years and if they are in Heaven with my Mom, send a little prayer or make a graveside visit and "They will know" trust me.
"Happy Mom's Day" to all you pillars of the Family!
oh and may the best horse win and go on to take the Triple Crown - - - - that would make my "Angel Mom" smile..
