I could just SCREAM
I know that know one on here knows everthing. I know people want to learn and fix there own things, after all thats the fun in it and why I'm here..... Here's my problem you tell some one somthing and they act like a kid who knows it all. If they are so smart why the hell ask the question. Is it because they like to see there names in print??? Most of the guys on here have gone to the school of hard knocks and learned how things work. I have been reading and trying to figure out why people insest they are right but the problem is still there. If they changed somthing that was working and now it dosen't work it can't be the parts fault it must be somthing else. I for one would go to there place and show them but I don't live by them (Thank God) SORRY about this vent maybe its the suden heat out there.Charlie

I agree, Charlie. While we don't believe everything that is offered to someone should be taken, I lose patience real fast for the hard headed ones who ask for advice and then start arguing back with you. I've asked for and gotten lots of good help on here when I needed it, and while I may have gone another direction I still tried to be grateful and thank the people who offered that help.
We've also seen some first time car builders/fixeruppers, who post something that is going to cause them trouble or harm, and when some more experienced rodders try to steer them in the right direction they act like we have insulted them terribly.
All you can do is offer your best help and if it is taken, fine, if not, fine too.
Don

I don't think there is any need to be apologetic, Charlie, most of us , at least older guys think the same way. I hate being asked for advice or opinion, and then having it tossed or thrown back in my face as if I was some sort of idiot. I may not know much, but I have spent a lot of years learning that.Rrumbler, Aka: Hey you, "Old School", Hairy, and other unsavory monickers.

I generally will only do two car forums with an occasional stop at a couple of others. If I know something about a subject will try to give advice to the best of my abilities. I'm far from an expert, but do usually get from point A to the next in line. I try to give my answers based on that personal knowledge. If someone wants to discuss a point, I'm more then happy. If they want to argue with me about the point - good luck, I'm done. The next thing is trying to educate someone who is new and wants basic information, I'll help if at all possible. I recall a guy on another forum who wanted a camshaft because a buddy had one and the "hot cam" idle was great. I suggested that the camshaft was wrong, and that he would probably need to do other work - OMG did I get a 'dressing down' - I'm gone.
Here - thankfully 90+% of the folks have been great. Yes, there have been a couple glitches. I'm still here, they have gone elsewhere. As far as rants, yep, you can, if you look back a ways find a couple of mine. They work, they get it out of your system, they can work to make others think. I have learned that to participate for very long on internet forums, you do need a thicker skin - which reminds me, I need to go roast a guy on another dedicated site ..........

i am by far one of the greenest here when it comes to helping others. but what really gets under my skin is when i answer a question and i am ignored or they never answer as to whether or not it helped.BARB

I'm sort of same frame of mind as Pat---someone will be searching for info and come across and as they read the posts (kind of in a 3rd person view) they may see how the op missed the boat and then they actually see the main thrust of the replies----

I am very confident that I know more than anyone what I don't know. That comes along with being old.
When I give advise,I am pretty sure about what I am saying is good info. That I am just giving back for what I have taken from the forum.
Beyond the archive for the site, which I think is under utilized,I try to remind myself, because of search engines, that what I am posting is being posted on the world wide web too. That does temper my posts on O/P's with a enlarged egos.Good Bye

I think we've all been there! I gave advice to one guy on here who then ganged up with another idiot to rant and rave to me. Six months later he was still posting the same problem. One year later his solution was my first suggestion. Makes you want to pull out a rubber mallet and pop them one. I'm like Barb, in that I'm green compared to most here, but when I have experience with a problem, I try to chime in and pay back what others do for me all the time here. It's funny when advice is met with critizism that you often wonder why they asked in the first place. I just let it go, and enjoy 99% of the rest of the folks on here!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

I read alot of post, but don't post that much. Have gained alot of info from you guys. I might not need to know the advise that is givin, but someday something that is said might ring a bell for me later on.
Thanks and keep it coming..

I forgot about those folks that ask a question and never respond back to your answers. On the other forum I frequent, someone a few days ago asked me several questions via PM, no less, about some equipment I'm using on my car. I answered them - never a response, thanks - nada. But it was read. Don't 'know' him nor had I ever knowingly corresponded with him via a thread. Kinda PO'ed about that one
I try to acknowledge everyone either individually or collectively to any of my OP's. If I've missed someone, well I'm apologizing nowDave W

You kind of have to keep it in the frame of a class room---yeh, you are answering a question one person asked, but you are answering so the whole room will understand-----
When I am asked something via PMs, I generally will not only respond with a PM, but will put it in a post also
Thank you Roger. .
