Ken Thurm MIA?
Anyone heard from Ken lately? From his stat's it looks like he's last been on board earlier today, but his last post was 4/22pm, which I believe was the night before "The Change".Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Ken is fine, I spoke with him on the phone a while back and have exchanged some emails with him more recently. He is just very busy with his businesses and working on his projects.
I can't speak for any member, but I do think the new format has thrown some of us off of our pace a little. It is more difficult to navigate and the look is a little harder on the eyes, IMO. It just feels very different somehow. It also seems to me that participation is way down since the change. New posts seem much lower and when I look at the number of members who are signed on at any given time there are only a handful logged on, whereas there used to be a bunch listed before. Personallly, I only check in here occasionally now, and post much less than before because there are less subjects on the table, it seems.
Sorry, I just call em as I see em.

don i agree with you. i have adjusted to the new site but i am sure that there are others that have not. i spoke with hoss last night on facebook and tried to walk him through how to change the look of the site. he tried and then stated that it was still too hard on his eyes and will not be posting here again. i really hope that he changes his mind.BARB

Probably the biggest contributor is that the old cached links that people have on their computers takes them to a log on error screen of some sort. Though I'm sure resistance to change is a factor as well. I think most folks here have noted that and figured out how to work past it and create a new, functional link. Those you're missing are not doing that, perhaps because they don't understand what has happened, perhaps just the final straw in their view to past history of server issues, perhaps something else.
I don't say the following as an outright critcism, but more as an observation of human nature. Any of you that were early adopters of personal computers remember the operating manuals/instructions that were mostly unintelligible to the layman, and thus practically useless. They were written by and for the technogeeks that developed the soft and hardware. Brent is one of those technogeels (said with affection). From their perspective this stuff is "easy" to understand, so therefore needs little to no explanation. The same reason lots of "fantastic" inventions never see the light of day. The inventors think their idea is so fantastic the entire world will embrace it. They are incapable of seeing the world (and their invention) as their potential customers do. That's why God invented marketing people.......to bridge that canyon between the inventors brilliance, and the eventual users frame of reference.
It would likely help the site if one of those broadcast emails went out that explained in effective terms what has happened, and what the user will likely see if they use the old cache. Followed by a simple explanation in lay terms that tells them how to log on successfully, including needing to remember their password (which might also be a stumbling block for some/many), and renew their participation.Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 05-12-2011 at 10:19 AM.

It is a free site. But I feel like I have lost some friends because of this. I can't see why there can't be one more theme to select at the bottom. I would call it a work friendly style that is all white with the posts still in their own box outline. Make it simple. Simple is good. I understand the adds between the first and second post in a thread, but I hate the 'wait 90 seconds between posts.' There is not enough traffic on here to require that.

I don't find the setup as user friendly as previous. Maybe I havent played with it enough to sink in yet. The color choices are hard my eyes as others have stated.

Yeah, it is a free site, but if it becomes not comfortable for people and they just stop participating, it is a free EMPTY site. If you are a member of more than one site you have to ask yourself why you go to those sites and ignore all the other ones out there. Part of it is because of the participants themselves, we end up bonding with each other and forming friendships and look forward to chatting with those friends. But another part of it is how the site itself "feels'.
I can't explain what makes one site feel better than another, but it is a real factor in why I gravitate to some and don't go to others. The old format just felt right, and even though it went down occasionally, we still kept coming back. So far I have not heard the exact reason this change was even made.........not that Brent owes us that explanation, but since we are family..............
I agree that the new format sucks. There is nothing I like about it, and from a few conversations and emails I have exchanged with friends on here, they are not fond of it either. It is more than resistance to change, it is like going to your favorite restaurant for years and suddenly they change the menu. You might try it for a while, but chances are you will stop going there and look for one that suits you better. That is how I feel about CHR today.

Don,
Part of the problem is that this is the only site I have found that has such a great cast of characters. The knowledge is unbelievable and most are willing to share it (Bob is willing to share too much sometimes, but that is another story). Friendly banter is put into so many of the threads. Your $3000 thread is a perfect example. Great how-to and fun conversation. It is what made me stick to this site when I found it. I am at a loss to where I could go and find e-friends like I have found here.

But guys.I understand what you all are saying and I too feel your pain but it is those friendships that I treasure that I have made through this Club that matters more importantly to me then the site it self. I only hope and pray that Hoss doesn't give up to soon as I'm sure he will be missed by all here as will any others that are undecided to preserve with the changes here. Uncle Bob,you keep those pictures coming as it is all part of the fun as with you Don,we all love hearing about your wild cats that you are feeding, Kurt with his boxer pup's all helps to make this site the best in the cyber space. I would be really hurt if we lost some of our friends who make up the regular posters here as I would feel that my left arm has been amputated.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

I agree with all that you say, Whip. If we all didn't care so much about the forum and it's continued success, we would simply keep quiet and not say anything. I would just hate to see people that I like a whole lot start to participate less.
