My only gripe with the new forum software is that checking the 'recent posts' list changed from a one-click operation to a several click/several keystroke operation because I now have to login to see that screen instead of just clicking the Club Hotrod logo in the corner like I used to.

With the previous software, I only had to login to post replies or to see pictures from the members who don't use off-site photo hosting. Maybe this is only a problem for me because I surf the internet on my TV from my couch and the keyboard is not always close at hand.

I looked high and low for a way to view a list of recent posts (like you used to get when you clicked on the CHR logo in the upper left corner of the page) but came up completely blank.

Maybe there is some way of doing it like I used to, so I don't have to dig out my keyboard every time I want to see what's new here. I'll keep searching.

Tried that, but it just sends me to the login screen.

    Thanks for your response.

In your post I see the link at the bottom, but not in anyone elses. Same goes for the scripting code, I only now see it because of your attachment. Strange, will investigate further.

Those of you that get pop up ads - what browser are you using? I just went into Internet Explorer and yep, there they are for AARP, Amazon, and a bunch of others. Google is the culprit and in cahoots with Microsoft. What they are doing is picking up words with their software and pulling ads to cater to the automotive minded. This is something that I read about a while back but this is the first I've seen of that garbage. I'm back on Firefox and Voila - no pop ups.

You folks wont believe me that Firefox is better

    Dave & Bill,
I'm seeing the same minimized "ads" as in Rick's post, and over to the side I did notice "Google Ad" in very small font. Yes Dave, I am using IE9, and I believe this started when I allowed the "upgrade" from IE8 to IE9 about a week or two back along with the normal MS Security upgrades. Never tried Firefox before, but may have to give it a whirl.

I couldn't agree more that Internet Explorer is by far the worst browser available - it's kind of like driving down the ditch on the information super-highway. IMO, Firefox and Chrome are noticeably faster and far less aggravating than MSIE.

Microsoft and Firefox don't play together well so when I need something from Microsoft I use IE9. The only other thing I use IE9 for is the weather radar from NOAA.

Roger - when you down load Mozilla Firefox, make sure you get their AdBlock add on. Once you have the Firefox, just put IE as a Start/Program item in case you ever need it for some obscure reason - you may never go back. I have the IE ad blocker - it's on and almost impossible to modify as it still lets many through.

Mozilla Firefox Web Browser | Free Download

Firefox 4.0.1 is the latest version and it will need some tweaking just like your new IE did. I'm just about to load the lap top with that version now and update from 3.6.17

Even Google Chrome is better, tho I believe Firefox has better support and interfaces

I use microsoft. Don't ever have to sign in. It's connected everytime I turn on the computer. Very few ads. Very few. Internet options in control panel is how you set things. If you delete cookies, then you will have to sign in till they are reset. I still think this site works well. They are doing a great job. There will be glitches until you get use to it.

That's an optional startup function with your operating system, not an automatic one. I've set mine that way as well on occasion and it does cut back on mouse clicks and you needing to do it manually. It's a good way to go if you mostly putter around on-line.

It's funny now I'm also getting little adds at the base of every loaded picture saying they are from gumgum. I decided to google this and have found a ton of members on all different forums including fordtrucks.com complaining about the same thing.
Here is what an administrator at another forum posted
    Hey guys,

"Yes, yesterday we implemented Gumgum ads to see how they do on soompi.

They should not "pop up" as a pop up ad, rather, they should appear on top of certain images. We have it set for less than 10% of images on Soompi, so it shouldn't be everywhere. If you see it appearing more than that, then please let me know.

We decided to to this because our ad revenue still does not cover our server expenses and we had to add another 3 servers. So we apologize if it is bothersome to you, but we need to figure out how to make sure soompi makes enough to cover the bills.

@bunnylicious - I am sorry that you think it is too many ads. We previously had 1 ad on the top, 1 ad btwn post #1 and post #2 and then one at the bottom which = three total for pages that could be several screenfull lengths. On the main site, we only have 2 ad units per page max. I had done some research and many forums actually put an ad btwn every post or every other post - which I think is crazy. Also, Google adsense keeps sending us emails telling us that we should put more ads on Soompi because we have fewer ads per page than most websites... But we do not want to fill Soompi with ads everywhere, so I was testing this picture one because we could limit how much it appears and 10% is pretty low. We are thinking of ways to make FOS better and one of the things I would like to do is try to reduce the # of ads for FOS - and since you are FOS, then it would help you alot.

I understand that you all do not want to see ads everywhere. But we also ask, if Soompi had no ads, how would we pay the server bills which are several thousand dollars a month? "
So in this forums case it would appear they put adds by gumgum on to generate income.
On another forum they suggested using programs like "no script" which is a free addon for Firefox which will prevent these little annoying ads below each picture. So I'm giving that a try as we speak to see if it works.

Are those pictures you see the ads on being hosted elsewhere, or are they attached to the post you make here using the attachment tool (not the one you put a url in, but the one you download the picture from your local hard drive)?

if hosted elsewhere, then we at CHR have no control over the advertising. If they are being downloaded directly from your computer to the server here, then that is something I can do a little deeper research on. However, if Brent so chooses to do that type of advertising (script), then my hands are tied as it's not my call.......He's got to cover expenses one way or the other........

O.K. Firefox users gumgum is gone using the NoScript add on program. I also read users who use Google's Chrome for a browser weren't having issues with gumgum, but in my case using chrome on windows xp laptop, I still get ads, and on some contests chrome won't post info you fill in. Internet explorer is a pain. I'm having issues just adding ad blocker, so for now Firefox is the browser of choice for here.
