RIP Matthew (James Arness.) Thanks for many years of watching over the people of Dodge city in one of my all time fav. TV shows. Some day we'll meet for a beer at the Long Branch up yonder.Remember, Freedom isn't Free, thousands have paid the price so you can enjoy what you have today.

He and Miss Kitty had a pretty hot thing going on there. Always thought Jim was a good actor and enjoyed that show a lot. Sorry to see him pass.
Not many people know it, but Jim was the alien in the 1951 movie The Thing. I remember watching that movie on tv late at night when I was about 6 and I was afraid to leave the couch and go up the stairs after. One of the all time great horror movies from that era IMO.

Not only was Jim an American hero, but John Wayne suggested that they use him for the marshall---an example of how some of the great hollywood people did a good thing for our hero vetts instead of spitting on them

Gunsmoke was a great show - the Marshall, Chester, Doc & Miss Kitty became a part of lots of lives around the world, or at least across the country back when times were a little more simple.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Gunsmoke was always one of my favorites, used to sit and watch it on TV with Dad and Grandpa. Lots of good memories--and lessons learned--from those days.
Also really enjoy watching some of the movies James Arness made after the 20+ year run of Gunsmoke, How the West was Won being a personal favorite along with Return to Dodge City! Classics one and all!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

We are fortunate that TVLand airs two back to back Gunsmoke reruns at 11am and Noon Monday's thru Friday's and we usually get some TV Trays and have our lunch with Matthew, Kitty, Doc, Festus and Newly every weekday. I met Milburn Stone at a Rodeo one time and he was such a kind and friendly Gentleman. Ken Curtis was also there that night but I didn't get the chance to meet him. They were all heroes of mine..

I think he was only out drawn once. Steve Forest shot him, Matt fell and shot him (Mannon). One of the best Gunsmoke shows. It's on u-tube. Thanks for the 20 years of episodes James.
