"Flash News" concerning Firefox 4.8
Hey Y'all I just received a phone call from a friend that's on the Power Tour and he told me to tell everyone I could to "Not download the Firefox 4.8" because it had been infected with a virus and caused his laptop to CRASH. It seems that it takes over your Security System and then gives you a window "WARNING" you to go to your Security System and when you do it takes over your computer and crashes it. I'm gonna post and email this to everyone that I know and hopefully we can keep others from suffering from this.
If they would just give me 45 seconds in a room with these hacker &^*$^%@#$*^%@ then they wouldn't do this ever again because they would have to type with their nose after I got thru with them..

Those who write these viruses have a special place in hell - latest Firefox is 4.0.1 Key is to never download Firefox from any source other than Mozilla.com"Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty." John Basil Barnhil

Been runnin' Firefox 4.0.1 since the day it came out. On both computers. It's a heluva lot better and safer then that crapola browser, IE
Meller - my guess is that if your bud's PC has a virus it's because his firewall let it in and his virucide probably wasn't up to date and didn't stop the junk.Dave W

thanks for the info. I running 4.0.1 also I hate Internet Explorer. their is a program called combofix
that will clean up most bugs. just make sure you download it from bleepingcomputer.com or it's a fake.
your friend could also boot up into safe mode and run his antivirus software to try to clean it. don't just do a
system restore to a previous date because that will do nothing it will come back.
at least his on the power tour more fun than a computer

We're running Firefox 4.0.1, too. I sent this post to my son who is a IT Engineer, Programmer, Troubleshooter type guy; his response was: "There is no such thing as firefox 4.8.
That should tell you something....""Rrumbler, Aka: Hey you, "Old School", Hairy, and other unsavory monickers.

Rrrum, as I mentioned earlier, I could have misunderstood him but my old ears thought that's what he said.

Note that all of the "free downloads" for Firefox 4.8 are from other than mozilla.com. Oh they're crafty bastards and the sites look so close to the real thing - as is the plan.
Remember mozilla.com is the real McCoy!"Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty." John Basil Barnhil

We are having a lot of trouble down this side of the world with certain Asian type people calling on the phone, and telling us that we have a problem with our computer...and to log in and do what they ask...yeah,right..We have had three of these calls so far..

Robin, the entire world is getting that way.
I was raised in an environment and society
that never locked their houses and left the keys
in the ignition of their automobiles - - BUT
sadly those days are no more..

I can remember those days, when the back door of the house was not locked at night,we left the keys in the car, usually, and everything was safe lying around outside,,cos most people were honest..Nowadays,some people would steal the eye out of ya winkie,if they thought they could benefit by it...The amount of bogus phone calls we get now,,usually from the same sector of the worlds population...is criminal..The computer fault calls started some time ago,,but we have only just started to get them..possibly because when I am working, the answer phone picks up the calls if I am lamin8ing....

I'm not sure if my mom ever locked a front door in her life except when they went on holiday. All of the neighbors knew each other and woe to any stranger in the neighborhood. We back up to some pretty thick woods but they do have some nice paths and not too far away is a major US interstate highway - and there are a few weirdo's that have come wandering through our yard. We not only lock the doors, but have a very good monitored alarm system. I hate it - but it's life now. Several of our neighbors have been burglarized (both sides of us) too but those window stickers seem to have helped. Phones - we have caller ID and if a call come in with no information, I wont answer it. If they identify themselves and leave a message, I'll call back. So far we haven't had the Asiatic callers, but I had a bazillion dollar a minute response to a Craigslist ad from a Caribbean island a couple weeks ago - you call back and get charged lots. Then there are the Nigerian princes and their "419 Scams". Computer problems - if you have a PC, you have a potential problem or 50 waiting to eat the hard drive. The only time my lap top got infected so far, I got a bunch of porno - BARFDave W
