so aggravated.
the man the runs our local car quest is a jerk. the only reason that i even visit his place is because he carries odd things that i have run across that i need better than advance auto does. my husband purchased a battery from him over a year ago. a few months ago when i was using it it started losing its charge over night. i took it to advance because they have the charger that measures if the battery is leaking charge and car quest does not. after a couple of hours i was told at advance that the battery was faulty and to take it back to car quest as it was still under warranty. my hubby and i did and i made the mistake of talking to the head guy there. he put the battery on a meter and said that it still had a small charge and i must be hooking it up wrong. I tried to explain that we had just gotten it tested and the charge he was seeing was from that. He told me that their machine was wrong and that they were trying to sell me another battery i did not need. Fine. be that way. I went back home with the battery and set it on the ground over night. I then got my hubby by himself to take it back to them the next day. they replaced it. So from then on if i need something i get my hubby to go with me and he talks to them as i browse. Yesterday a dear friend of mine who happens to be a woman stopped by my house for a moment. She said that she had a quick question about her mustang. I told her that i do not know alot about mustangs but i would try to help her as she is completely car illiterate. She asked me how much does a oil change cost. I told here that it depends on what type of oil she uses and her manual should tell her but i would do it for free if she got everything. I told her that the oil and filter should cost about $20.00 or so. She said that she just went to car quest to get wiper blades because they also install them. While the owner was installing the blades she asked him how often does she have to change her oil. He said that she should change it now. I asked her if he asked her any questions about how many miles or anything and she said no. I told her that there was no way in hell that he could tell her that her oil needed changing now. she asked him how much and he said $40.00. she asked does that include the oil. he said not but it was really cheap for him to do it if she brought the oil there. I told her bullshit that it would be $60.00 or more and that if she did not have time for me to do it to take to any other place besides him when she has time. I have gotten used to this guy being a ass to me over time. Have dealt with it from others before. But for this asshole to try to take advantage of a 55 year old school teacher is beyond what i would expect from someone that has to deal with the public. I mean come on. sorry for the long rant but i am truly po'ed.BARB

Sorry barb. There are way too many jerks out there looking to make a buck. No matter if it is in the car industry, computers or home repairs. If they think they can pull one over on someone they will. I wish we could go back to the days when people tried to be honest and earn an honest living.

It does in a perfect world. Just too much selfishness and greed out there now. So many people are weak minded and only think of themselves. They can't see more than two feet in front of them.

i see that now. one of the many joys of living in a small town is that news travels fast. i am going to make sure that all of my friends know what he tried to do. then we will see where that greed of his gets him.BARB

We have a section in the local paper called Roses and Thorns that's found in the opinion section. If you have such a venue in your local paper you put something in the Thorn section. Jerks like that don't need to be in business and sooner or later with enough adverse publicity he'll either change his ways or go out of business. With three grown daughters I know your despair. I taught my daughters all that they could adsorb about car maintenance and it really surprises the jerks that try to pull the wool over their eyes when one of them catches them trying to feed them BS.Ken Thomas

Well we're here for you Barb! There are few on this site I enjoy more than you! You're honest and transparent and have shown your tenacity in your engine swap - a feat one in ten thousand guys has even attempted, much less finished as well as you have! This give you some real credibility in the car world and you have every right to be more than a bit "miffed" at the local yokel trying to rip off a friend.
My local Ford dealer may be an exception - but I have the oil in my Expedition changed there every 5,000 miles. Oil, filter, top the fluids, vacuum the interior and wash the exterior for $29 bucks with every fifth one free! My dealer's service stays open until midnight as well so I can stop just about anytime and they change the oil while I wait (and drink their coffee). Might go with your lady friend and check out the dealer and see if they're a good fit for her.
In the mean time, please know that I (like the rest of the "guys") on this site have nothing but a great deal of respect and admiration for you. Your hubby is one lucky guy!!

glen that is the nicest things ever said to me and from someone that i deeply respect means even more. all of you guys mean the world to me. i doubt if i am one of the few that will swap a engine but if you say so then it must be true. i am in awe everyday that i visit this site and read what you guys are up too. one of my other girlfriend asked me once why i chose cars as my hobby. i told her that it is not my hobby but my passion. and there is so much more to learn. every time i come up with an idea and think that maybe i have finally lost my mind i put it before you guys and all i hear is go for it. we are here to help. my hubby is a fantastic man that does not care what crazy idea i come up with he lets me go with it. without you guys and him i would have never tried any of this. and for that i sincerely thank you all. now i have begun thinking about future projects. i want to do a body off restoration. the 70 coronet interest me or the 65 lincoln. got to learn something besides just chevroletBARB

There's people like that all over the world.
We have one locally.
Some years back we needed work done on our daily driver.
So it went to him.
Our daughter's car was booked in the next day for some major suspension work, and knowing the parlous state of her finances I told him to add it to my account.
To say I was surprised when I got the account would be an understatement.
Bearing in mind he's a one-man-band, over five days he managed to wring a total of eighteen hours work out each day...ninety hours in all on the two cars.
We have never been back.

Barb, the world is full of jerks, and unfortunately we are forced to deal with them sometimes. The older I get the less tolerance I have and am a little quicker to speak my mind.
There was this one gas station in town that I would get gas at fairly often and the way it was setup you pumped your gas then drove forward to the attendant who was in a little building where you would pay him. He was the most surly guy I have ever met, and you could say "good morning" or " how are you" and get nothing back, just a scow. One day I couldn't take it any more and said to him "Let me ask you a question. Is it just me you don't like or do you treat everybody like s***?" His eyes got real big and he mumbled something, and I drove off. But from then on he was as nice as pie, even over friendly. Sometimes people just need to be called out for their actions.
Make yourself feel better, next time he is an idiot tell him about it.............or tell the home office of Car Quest, that works wonders too.
Don
Thank you Roger. .
