I hear you loud and clear both Ted and you Pat. My fault is that my fingers don't type as quick as the brain works and I end up leaving words out. Hey Pat the only thing I wish for with these computers is one doesn't hear your beautiful Irish accent. I have always been fascinated with the Irish,Scottish and different English accents and dialogue.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

I haven't used one of these programs, but have seen a number of posts by folks who have. Keeping in mind that people who are satisfied are far less likely to comment, it may or may not be informative.
It appears that these kind of programs need a bunch of "fiddling" to get them functional. If you've got a geeky streak you may be able to get past the annoyances. It sounds like the program has to "learn" how you speak, and in turn you have to learn how to speak to the program. Seems like about an even split on folks either throwing out the program, or working through it, maybe learning to live with some annoyance, and continuing. Probably typical of most any complicated program.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Like Bob, I have not used any of the voice recognition programs, but as much as I get frustrated dealing with the automated calling centers that most big businesses use these days I don't see one in my future...Roger

You know those programs get to know you sooooo well, after awhile they start tell you what to say. Then the nightmares start, the drinking heavy, and then Doctor Phil secessions.Oh I forgot the part about the rubber room.Maybe a night course on typing would work better.Good Bye

Back in the early eighties, I was working with a group in our company that was trying to develop voice/speech/word recognition software and programming that was going to do just that: type what you said; it was a running joke with us that if you had a cold, or as some people will do, just talked a bit differntly from one day to the next, it would report you to the security division and they would come and get you. That system was also very touchy and succeptible to background speech or noise; we had our stuff set up in a separate room away from the day-to-day work areas. As far as I know, they abandoned that in favor of other programming that was not so touchy, mainly canned programs that you called up and just inserted the appropriate names in the right places - that was not perfect, either, but it worked better than trying to argue with a machine that said you were not yourself. I know that there is a lot of far more advanced stuff out there, now, but I still wouldn't trust it too far; so much of our spoken language is dependent on inflection, accent, different meaning for the same word used in a certain context. I just don't think a machine can accomodate all of the variables and make a reasonable statement of them.Rrumbler, Aka: Hey you, "Old School", Hairy, and other unsavory monickers.
Twistin' and bangin' on stuff for about sixty or so years; beat up and busted, but not entirely dead - yet.

google has one called voice search for surfing the web. I have not tried it myself. I did try a program back in
the 90's but the set up was a pain. you had to teach it to your speech it had a hard time understanding my
Gajawga accent so gave up.
here is the google voice search Inside Google Search · Voice Search

Yep. And I seem to move 1 thing and it displaces something else with 1/2 of that landing on the workbench and then I forgot where I was going with this other thing and I'll see something else that...
