Some prayers, please
I'm at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Ia., not exactly my usual place for a Sunday morning.
My grandaughter is in the Hospital, Pediatrics ICU. Her tramp of a mother who left my son about a year or so seems to have been abusing both girls--she of course alleges it was her boyfriend (he was locked up on Thursday afternoon), but both are suffering from malnutrition and I've seen the bruises. IMO even if she didn't physically beat the girls she's as guilty as the boyfriend for allowing it to take place....you decide for yourself...
Anyway, Alexus (we call her Lexie) is suffering from a severe potassium and sodium shortage...along with two bleeders in her brain creating excessive craniul pressue. Yesterday afternoon they did a procedure to alleviate some of the pressure and her response was most favorable--but she is still a long ways from out of danger.. We'll be meeting with the Nuerologist (sp) this morning to hear his findings from the MRI's and other tests.
When the nurse was checking her at 4AM she did recognize "Grandpa", and was responsive to a few other questions. She appears to be sleeping somewhat comfortably now.
Please, your prayers for her!! She's going to need a lot of them.
So far, I've not said anything to her mother and probably best it remain that way... I have been assured that Child Protective Services are investigating, and been asked to be available to speak with them Monday morning. Hopefully they'll get her locked up too!!! I have my own thoughts about how the entire situation should be handled, but they're probably (for now at least) best left to be just my private thoughts...
No child should ever have to be subjected to such treatment!!! Both the girls have medical issues to be dealt with, and I'm sure other issues as well later on. If you would, add Alexus and Alisha to your prayers, they really need them!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

You got'em buddy! Nothing but good thoughts, and prayers for the girls! I can't and won't comment 'bout the rest, it would serve no good purpose anyway. I just hope the girls can find their way into a better situation.

Dave,
I'm so sorry to hear about your granddaughters' situation, and especially about Lexie and her injuries. Kids are amazingly resilient, but as you say no child should be subjected to abuse. Both girls will be in our prayers this morning, and in coming days and weeks. It's good that you are there for them, my friend. How old are the girls?Last edited by rspears; 07-10-2011 at 06:01 AM.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

OMG, Dave, that is absolutely horrible. Bad enough that kids get sick for no reason sometimes , but when it happens because of something a Parent does it is just so inexcusable. Whatever happened to the days when Mothers would rather die than hurt their children? (ie, Casey Anthony )
Our prayers and best wishes will be coming your way. Please keep us posted as to how she is doing. Please do whatever you can to keep this woman away from the girls in the future............I know the Authorities can be non responsive at times, but please become a squeeky wheel, for the girls sake.
So sad.

Dave, I'm gettin' ready to see my Grandson this afternoon to give him a model dragster I picked up for him at the Rt. 66 Nats on Friday. These little people are God's gift to grandparents for sure. I'm so very sorry for what they & you are going through, I can only imagine my little guy in that situation. I'll be praying this all works out well, full recovery and a better life situation for both girls going forward.
Sure glad you are there for them. God may use you to help answer those prayers."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.
"LIVE" your life like you could die tomorrow.

Oh man, Dave, I can't imagine what the girls have been through but I think I can imagine what the situation is doing to you.
I have never met you but after 6+ years of reading you I feel like I know you. I'm sure a lot of other people here feel the same way.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

You got it bud!
I just don't get this kind of thing............we see it all too often, but I just can't wrap my head around it. There must be a "special" place in hell for these kind of people.
As for Lexie, I hope the rest of the family can help put her back on the path to health.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

I am with Uncle Bob on this one. How brave of a man or woman does it take to physically hurt children. Dave hopefully you will be able to remove the girls from this terrible situation and they can be little girls again never to look back. Our prayers are with you and the girls!
