I run Norton on a dozen plus PC's and laptops. Seems to work well and we have had no virus problems but most here are pretty careful about what they "click on", i.e., no unsolicited email attachments or advertisements. Pop-ups are blocked and we filter spam pretty tight as well.
There's no protection from "willingly" entering sites that are dangerous. Most all porn and "get rich quick" sites are trouble and should be avoided. I surf a lot of car type sites and have no problems, but I do stay away from those that Norton flags.."Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty." John Basil Barnhil

Havn't heard about Leo Leporte in a long time.. Norton is crap that drains your wallet and loads the system up. Avast works well for free. Nod32 is said to be good altho I have never used it.. Leo Leporte used to be a host on a TechTV show called The Screen Savers. It was how I kept up with the tech world until the network sold out and changed formats. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

I bought Nod32 with this laptop about five years back and have not had any problems. If you go with it do your annual renewals through ESET, and they just extend your contract without having to hassle with new files, etc. Much easier. I use AVG on the desktop machine, and like Avast it has a free version, but you have to go in regularly to update the virus file info which is automatic if you pay them.Roger

I had used AVAST on the desk top but I also have Advanced System Care and they fought with a lock up happening more often then I cared for - and it's a known problem. I currently have AVIRA as a stop gap until I'm satisfied that AVAST has been fixed - which the developers claim it has. AVAST does work fine on the laptop but that is running XP Pro+ (whatever that is vs the XP that I have on the desk top). I used Norton for years here and at work years ago, but it's too system invasive for my use. McAfee was as bad. Now, it's usually free stuff tho I did upgrade for the $ Advanced System Care after my sweet, charming, lovable, but 'puter illiterate GC 'introduced' some nasty virus's last Christmas.Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

I've used Kaspersky for the for the last 7 years or so and like Accell, I wouldn't touch anything from Norton, very invasive product and poor customer support.Ken Thomas

All I use is (Microsoft Security Essentials). Is also free. Never had a problem. I talked with a computer guy and he said it's the best thing they have done.

I was just going to also mention Microsoft Security Essentials. A member on another forum told us about it so I downloaded it. It has caught so many threats that I can't count them all.
I go onto cooking sites for recipes (Ok, I like to cook) and you would be amazed how many viruses are planted on those sites. Every so often a screen will pop up telling me the Microsoft program has detected a virus and I can click to clean it out. So far it has kept my computer clean.
That program is free and you can also do a quick scan or a complete scan (that takes about 5 hours) and it has always come up clean when I do it. I am very impressed with it so far, and love the fact it is free.

i run norton360 , stopzilla and spiebot in mine . spiebot is good at stopping any registry change. stopzilla has found stuff norton missed. i do believe i will drop norton this year as it is like mcafee for being a target .
