Old Spark Plugs
It’s funny the things we save. Back in the 60’s when I was cleaning up the old shop back home I came across a bucket full of old spark plugs. I spent a couple of hours going thru it and picked out one of each different type.
I’ve displayed them off and on over the years, but during the last move they ended up in an old coffee can on the shelf and pretty much forgotten about until I came across them again a couple of days ago. I decided they would go well with the other old stuff I’m putting in the office so I spent this afternoon building and hanging racks to put them in.
While some of them are automotive plugs a lot are from tractors and stationary engines. The majority of them are 3 piece design which allowed them to be taken apart for cleaning (I understand a big selling point).
About half of them are different styles of Champion and AC but there are a lot of other brands:
Auto lite
Defiance
Miller
Monamobile
Blue Crown
Lightening Reflex
PAF Non Foul
Sure Hit
Tiger
Edison
Wards Riverside
The electrode designs were always interesting to me and over the years I’ve chuckled over the years when someone would “invent” the latest and greatest new electrode design that was either a copy of of these or only a slight variation.
I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

Those are some pretty odd looking plugs, Mike. Especially the ones with multiple side electrodes on them. Nice collection and it takes up a lot less room than oil cans.

A nice collection and display, and some names I'd never heard of, too.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

You're right about the space Don, almost everything else I have acquired/collected takes up sheds worth of space.....I sonetimes think the guys who collect the models instead of the real things might have the right idea
Roger I got a kick out of some of the names too. One name I forgot to mention was Splitdorf (the 2 green plugs on the left of the last picture). That company was either part of or combined with Edison.
One of the things that I had forgotten about is how tight the gaps are on these, but I guess when you figure the output of the early iginition/mag systems it makes sence.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....
