Efi-nascar??.
I was reading about a program for fuel in a going green move in
NASCAR.Wonder if we will ever see them make a move to EFI for better mileage??.I would think that is the next natural move giving the body style change.Would be supported by car manufactures because it more likely reps the cars sold off in the show rooms.Good Bye

Next year---they're already running 15% ethanol, next year will be EFI. They're already testing the cars with the new EFI system.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I looked into this farther to find that NASCAR chose a British company as a engine control system.I agree with this link that had to ruffle some feathers in the Chevy/Ford camp having a import as a control their engines.

NASCAR has lost so much credibility with the older fan base the past few years that they don't care any more. Wait a few years and they will probably not even have American cars racing in NASCAR. I am a road race fan but used to realy like NASCAR. Now I don't watch many of the races.

I wonder how they are going to control the fuel flow....will they gauge the air meter like they do the venturi? Some of the road race challenge series proved that you cant limit the injector pulse widths......too many ways to cheat. They could require a MSD-type throttle body/air meter however that has "barrels" similar to a carb (except they are dry).

The article explains nothing about the hardware function nor components (other than the McLaren name), it is a press release to make Circle Track look good. Obviously, the announcement of the choice of McLaren probably involved some promise of dead presidents' pictures. Freescale is the old Motorola chip manufacturing; they made the chipsets for Ford EEC, Chrysler NGC, some Honda models, Cummins, and Detroit Diesel ECMs....plus probably chips for many others using digital processors.
NASCAR will not let the fuel injection run without some control over the horsepower potential.....just like they do with carburetors.... The switch to FI will certainly increase the knowledge base of the application of fuel injection to higher horsepower engines running under a varying load....

That's the main purpose of the testing this year, to learn what the engines require for injectors, pressure, flow rates, etc. I'm sure when the testing is complete there will be some very specific limitations on the EFI system, and I would imagine a sealed ECU. One of the preliminary ideas what that NASCAR tech would have a plug in unit to verify the settings are as per the rules. Will be interesting to see what the final outcome of the testing is!
Dead on with the development potential, Robot!!!! As with many other systems and components first used in racing us Hot Rodders will eventually benefit from the wealth of information and new developments derived from NASCAR switching to EFI!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
