They were demonstrating a portable Propane Generator on the Today Show this morning.
If I ever get one, it will be propane because gas was almost impossible to find locally after Ike.
Looks like Irene is gonna keep her "dirty side", the East side, offshore and that's good news..

Now that the weather forecasters have wet themselves and salivated with a blood lust, it appears that Hurricane Irene may be, for the most part, a big but fairly windy rainstorm. The 'so called' eyewall has collapsed, the winds are barely mid cat 1 at 85 mph (The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale) and weakening more as it moves inland.
With that said, I do hope that holds and that it wont intensify - we sure don't need the predicted 4-10 inches more rain on top of the 3-4 that we had a few days ago that has saturated the ground. Also, I hope everyone stays safe.Dave W

Dave,
I had to smile with your intro - we had one of those overly dramatic weather ladies here in the KC area, and during the spring thunderstorm/tornado season she would convince the station management to interrupt programming (like Final Four games) to "warn" the public of doom anytime there was a bank of dark clouds approaching, often continuing to broadcast her "emergency" for an hour or more. Our favorite was when she advised, "Everyone needs to run to your basement right now with your bicycle helmets on until I give you the 'All Clear'!!!", and there were only isolated points of heavy rain and some thunder/lightning.
As you said, I hope Irene continues to diminish and remains a windy rain storm for the right coast.Roger

Glad it just degraded to a tropical storm rather than hurricane. Still some problems for folks, but not near as bad as it might have been.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
