Steve - must be Stovens missed your response about the ducks. My wife stayed there on a business trip a few years ago - good fun: Peabody Ducks: The Peabody Memphis Tennessee Hotels
Then you could also visit Graceland (Elvis was seen in a donut shop nearby) and down the road a "few" miles, the Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville. Now that I've been to, but in 1981 and most of the stars then are in another place.Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

Yep. The hotel is an old one. They have a big fountain in the lobby. Every day at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. the ducks march either to or from the fountain to the elevator. It is a huge production to watch.
Legend of The Peabody Ducks
How did the tradition of the ducks in The Peabody fountain begin?
Back in 1932 Frank Schutt, General Manager of The Peabody, and a friend, Chip Barwick, returned from a weekend hunting trip to Arkansas. The men had a little too much Jack Daniel's Tennessee sippin' whiskey, and thought it would be funny to place some of their live duck decoys (it was legal then for hunters to use live decoys) in the beautiful Peabody fountain.
Three small English call ducks were selected as "guinea pigs," and the reaction was nothing short of enthusiastic. Soon, five North American Mallard ducks would replace the original ducks.
In 1940, Bellman Edward Pembroke, a former circus animal trainer, offered to help with delivering the ducks to the fountain each day and taught them the now-famous Peabody Duck March. Mr. Pembroke became the Peabody Duckmaster, serving in that capacity for 50 years until his retirement in 1991.
Here is the whole story on this web link. Pretty cool!

Oh, Steve, you must not have heard. Hurricane Irene wiped out all the beer factories in the entire US and there won't be any available for the next 3 weeks !
Better bring a lot with you...........Boddington's or Bass will do nicely !
Update: I found out the factories weren't actually destroyed, they just converted over to bottled water for the hurricane. (I figured he would catch me in the other lie )
