My yard is blackened from a grass fire last month. Hope everything in the shop is dry. You gotta love it when it rains in Texas.

So glad to hear you guys in Texas are finally getting some rain. It poured all afternoon and night here too, and I mean POURED. The road going to our shop had an area that was probably 2 feet deep in spots, and when I was driving it was hard to see in front of you. We get some hard rains here in Florida, but this one was especially hard.
Hope the rain you guys got went to all those who are so dry out there.

Glad you guys are finally getting the much needed rain, but a naked rain dance?

looks like it was a state wide affair to the west. still need much more. one 7 in rain fills tanks but wont do a lot for crops. we need slow soaking rains to get the moisture where we need it. i bet i can hit dry dirt at 4 in even after all this rain .

Heck, the rain even made it way up here, Shine! Not near as much as you guys got, but enough... It had been very dry and windy for a couple weeks and we had lots of grass fires and when the farmers started combining beans, any sort of spark at all was starting field fires, too with the result being a few burnt up combines (at about $100K plus per copy!) So, when you guys sent this 1/2" of rain we got over the last two days the fire danger is way down again.....
Too bad about the hay ground, maybe if the rains continue awhile some might try some winter wheat????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

First measurable here since May 1.5 in. will help a lot,but as Shine said still dry as a bone a couple of inches down. We need about 20 in. to get Lake Travis back to normal.
Thankful for what we got, I walked the dog in the rain on purpose just to see what it felt like to get wet.Don D

many around me lost on winter wheat last year. planted and no rain. so this year a lot did not plant. damned if you do damned if you don't. i have no livestock to feed this winter so i am in better shape than many. people have been feeding for most of the summer. beef will be high come spring.
glad all are getting some of this. and yes i have been afraid to even shred this year. fires got me spooked. gonna be a firewood farmer this winter.

We got rain for the whole last week, which was perfect, since I thatched and airated the lawn, and had it reseeded. The guy who did it said, water twice a day for ten days, so that cut my water bill quite a bit.
I'm surprised with 7" of rain overnight, that you guys didn't get flash flooding. It seems when it does rain, it pours! Funny went from getting the cars ready for winter with new tires to now having to go and buy new wiper blades! It has been another wierd summer for weather, cool and crummy for veggies to grow, but then in late Sept, we get almost 100 degree days, for a 10 day stretch, but then instant fall with temps in the 40's at night. Very strange!
Dave didn't know they use combines to harvest beans. Those suckers are expensive!Last edited by stovens; 10-09-2011 at 11:46 AM.

For once this year I'm not complaining about rain. It's sunny and ~80-82* today and expected to last through at least Wednesday. I had to get my short sleeve shirts back out and put the flannels back away for a few more days. But the leaves are coming downDave W

This was NASCAR weekend at the KS Speedway, and while we could use the rain we were happy it stayed a bit west of us today. It was a beautiful weekend here, and we were fortunate to score Hot Passes that got us anywhere in the garages/pits at any time, plus suite seats for both the Nationwide Saturday and the Cup Race today which was a special treat. Fantastic weather for a fantastic weekend at the speedway.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
Thank you Roger. .
