    Exclamation What's wrong with us??.

Our society doesn't understand what is wrong. It's like a guy that doesn't do anything as his problem because the row boat he is in to bail it out the leak isn't under his seat.

Its that the education system is centered around sports---what we really need is more scholarships for javelin catchers in the athletics departments---

My theory is that we have become a society of instant self gratification. Its all about me! And me's have all the power.

Yes,it appears that the world we live in,people are so rapped up in themselves, that they don't give a hoot to anybody else. Just recently an elderly guy died in his flat/apartment here in Wellington, and it took over a year before somebody noticed he hadn't been seen. I find it hard to believe that neighbours can go about every day living without saying a hello to they neighbour let alone knowing that there is an elderly person living alone in their street and not checking on them if they hadn't seen them for a day or two.

The human race has become very desensitized. Not much shocks us anymore. Only about 50 years ago we would have been outraged over some of the things that are happening but today it is like business as usual.

You can blame it on a lot of factors, but I think one of the biggest contributors is the breakdown of the family unit and home. Kids used to come home from school and there was Mom waiting for them to ask how their day was and just talk with them. Now, most families have to have two incomes to just squeak by, so when the kids get home (if they even come home) they are greated by an empty house and no one to be there for them and guide them. Women wanted to be equal to men, and now that they have it lots of them see it wasn't as rosey as they envisioned.

I think a lot of it started going downhill with the hippie generation (us). All of a sudden whatever made you feel good was ok and encouraged. Yeah, they spouted love and equality, but what that lifestyle really fostered were kids who were free to do whatever they wanted, and as we all know, what kids REALLY want are strong role models they can look up to and emulate. Most of us had that when we were growing up, but we let our own kids down by not being there for them in the ways they needed us to be.

And, as mentioned, we have gotten away from knowing and caring for other people. We knew and trusted our neighbors years ago, but now our kids are taught (rightfully so in lots of cases) to distrust ANYONE, even the couple living right next door. We also don't take responsibility for our actions anymore...........we always try to blame someone else or let someone else take the hit.

But there are so many other pieces to this puzzle, like video games that make it seem ok to blow someone away, schools that have become revolving doors and who are taken to task when they try to discipline some unruly child, and a lousy economy that gives our future workers very little hope of getting a piece of the American Dream, and finally, what I consider the biggest factor to bring our society to the low level it is now at, DRUGS. Almost every crime and problem we face today comes directly from drugs, and no one can dispute that fact.

    Soap box put away.

I'll borrow that box for a moment Don, another part of this dilemma that I see is all "the stuff" ! Everyone has to have the latest "stuff"... from cell phones to " I somethings "...

And what enjoyment is there getting the latest stuff each year just to know it's old and out dated in 11 months?!?!? We grew up almost dirt poor. We got to choose a gift at xmas from the sears "big book" catalog. Each child could spend 20 bucks! Of course there might be others gifts like clothes, socks etc... But we loved each other and we all worked for a common good! Dad worked 2 jobs, left at 4 AM and returned home at 10 PM! Mom took a afternoon job once we all were old enough and we did chores to keep everything in order.

We didn't have "stuff"... as compared to today... we had enough though, there were times I wish we weren't so poor but, we had enough to eat and shoes on our feet and that was usually a good feeling to know I had enough! I just see so many people who want all the "stuff" and when they get it.. It doesn't bring any enoyment because they now want the next new thing..

Jumping down now... thanks for listening.. 8-)

I agree. It seems even the illegal aliens having babies on our unit on your and my dimes, are complaining that we should all speak spanish. I get so disapointed in the sense of entitlement, even from people here illegally breaking our very laws then throwing them in our faces. We must be nuts to tolerate this and vote for people who support this!
On a lighter note here is a british video making fun of the blackberry device as well as other stuff. I hope it cheers you guys up. Steve
