It's in the museum!!!
Hope some of you remember a couple years back the dirt track modified restoration that a couple friends of mine did. The car was owned by Daryl Dawley, a great friend and one of my hero's when I was a kid hangin' out in race shops. Daryl was killed in a racing accident in Knoxville, Ia. in '78. RIP....
Anyway, back to the car. Daryl built this car in '78 and Don Reiners drove it. Biggest win with the car was Cheater's Day in Sioux Falls, SD. Don won his heat, the trophy dash, and the main. Earlier in the summer Don had won a half dozen or so features in the car at various tracks. Couple friends found the car over in Minnesota about 5 years ago, disassembled but with all the pieces still there. They bought it and set about doing the restoration of the car. I did the 'glass work, had to recreate the hood, and put the body back together, then painted everything.
Now it's in the Knoxville Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum. Recently they set up a display of some of Tony Stewart's cars, his USAC midget, sprint, and Silver Crown Car along with his Indy Car, and the IROC car he drove in the championship race--Great Display!!!! I've added a link to a promo video for the event, at a bit before the 7 minute point on the film, there's a shot of our #23 Modified!!! Friend of mine emailed me about it yesterday and I thought I'd share it with the gang here on CHR. Really great to see the car in the museum, brought back a lot of memories for me of all the good times and good friends I had back then racing and wrenching mods and sprints!! Also reminded me of the accident Daryl and Roger Larson were killed in and what a terrible drive home it was that night after the races....
This is the second car we've had in the museum, sure feels good to help preserve a bit of racing history from this part of the country, and allows us geezers to remember all the good times, and bad times, we had along the way.... If you should happen to be heading across I-80 in Iowa sometime, Knoxville is about 35 miles south of Des Moines and the museum is well worth your time to check out some racing history!!!
Here's the link to the video, hope I posted it right!

Dave I remember when you were posting some of the resto stuff a while back. Must feel great to see your hard work in a museum. That car looks great. I can only imagine the history and good times you had racing, along with the bad too." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.
Merry Christmas ya'll
