Carroll Shelby Info
I've wondered, but there's so much information on the Inet about him that I have never found a reference. Anyone know how tall Shelby is? Just wondering about the early Cobra's and some of the other European cars he raced - he can't be a long legged guy. Just curious, because I cannot fit inside a true Cobra replicaRoger

He was a sickly kid and in bed a lot until age 14. He was 5' 2" in 1941 (age 18) and had to gain weight before being admitted to the Army Air Corp. He grew to over 6' and he raced a lot of cars..

Thanks Glenn,
I had read several similar historical perspectives, but none that referenced height. I had seen that leaky heart valves kept him pretty much bed ridden until age 14, but then they turned him loose. That was quite a growth spurt after age 19, but not at all unheard of - wasn't it David Robinson who grew so much while at Annapolis that he couldn't remain in the service, and they released him to the NBA?Roger

Robinson was, if memory serves me right, close to 7 foot when he entered Annapolis.Ken Thomas

No, he grew after he got there. The service acadamies cannot admit anyone over 6'8" tall - Robinson was 6'7" but grew to 6'9" by the time he took the court for the first time. He continued to grow, reaching 7' and being inelligible for his commission - David Robinson (basketball) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaLast edited by rspears; 11-12-2011 at 03:06 PM.
