Wow!! Now if I smelled even a hint of acetylene I would have opened the garage door manually and then each of the doors on the car without touching anything that could cause even the slightest spark (even the dome light coming on would scare me!). i've done the cut and burn since i was a kid like most of you. i took it for granted until recently. i got an education on acetylene because of the big fire here a while back. in all my years i never knew dropping a cylinder could set it off even if the valve was untouched. i count my blessings on this one.

As someone who has pulled some really boneheaded tricks in my life, I can't say too much. Every time I take an oxygen or acetylene bottle to be swapped out in the trunk of my car I wonder about the wisdom of my decision. That SUV really blew up good, didn't it !
