Yeah, the people that make this crap up think they're going to do damage to Obama, but the only thing they do is make people suspicious of everything they here. Just like the bs when people said Obama wasn't a US Citizen, and that he was a Muslim.....did nothing but take the focus off the real issues that are going on... The healthcare bill is being litigated all the way to the US Supreme Court, but nobody even mentions the points in the bill that violate the Constitution and do what they can to support the people who are fighting to have the entire plan declared unconstitutional. This and all the other lies do nothing but make people doubt the credibility of everyone who is opposed to the Administrations plans and methods.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Alan, you were doing really good until that last one! I enjoyed listening to Collin Grey's explanations of the various pieces of the system, and really cannot argue with his analogies much.
On the gas price piece, while I agree that a sitting president cannot mandate lower prices, they can influence policies that impact pricing. The Keystone Pipeline is the perfect example, and we've been riding that horse all through this thread. By denying that project to hold on the the "green vote" Obama has thumbed his nose at Canada, giving them no option but to build their own pipeline to the west, and entering into long term sales agreements with China for that oil. While the output would not meet our needs it would make a big step to reducing dependence on Saudi oil. The people that say, "Oh they'll pass it after the election" don't seem to understand that there is no longer any project to approve. The source of oil is going somewhere else, so building a pipeline in 2013 and beyond is moot - the oil will be gone to China. Mandating increased efficiency is also a joke. Look at the Chevy Volt, which looks to every taxpayer to subsidize sales, and still does not work. Mass transit?? Sure, mass transit helps reduce fuel use in the handful of big cities, but the majority of people don't live there. We're a big, wide open country and mass transit is not the answer, any more than turning to solar and wind answers our power needs. I guess you were just teasing us with the first one, waiting to blindside us with another green weenie, this time compiled from a mass of misinformed talking heads.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

until energy resources are removed from commodities trading this will continue. as for oil shortage i dont think so. find a storage facility that is empty . the pipeline is needed to move stored oil out of the midwest to sell elsewhere. until we get an administration with half a brain this will continue and this bs of catering to the idiotic green movement is ridiculous. they're all full of suggestions but have very few remedies . or as we say here " all hat , no cattle "

"All hat......no cattle" is one of my favorites shine.....love it!
Speaking of which it wouldn't be too difficult to post up a string of quotes of defenders of the Pres who today are claiming how powerless the President is in these matters, but just a few years back were pilloring Mr. Bush for not "fixing gas prices".......including Mr. Obama himself. But it would be a pointless exercise save reminding folks of the politisation of the issue.
The President's affect on petroleum pricing isn't an over night thing, it's an accumulation of policy decisions and their outcomes or expected outcomes over time. In order to keep themselves "clean" the politicians have to distract by pointing the finger at some bogeyman............usually "greedy oil companies", and of course "speculators"..........we'll be hearing a lot about those evil speculators if the price hangs high to election day. How come we never hear about those evil speculators when the price is going down? Whether the price goes up or down, commodity traders are trading......it's what they do. They're part of the financing of the petroleum market, as well as farming and mining among others. Taking oil off the commodities market would be "all hat, no cattle" move too. Showmanship in the old "do something" vein. Think about that word......speculator..........just what are these evil guys "speculating" on. Prices are bid up or down based on expectations. If it's expected that supplies will be insufficient for expected demand, for boat loads of reasons, then the price gets bid up. If expected supply exceeds exceeds expected demand, then the price gets bid down..........goes on sale if you will. It's all about the expectations, which is something that a President can INFLUENCE. So, what do these "speculators" see today? There's a decent chance that something bad will happen in the middle east. At some point in time, hopefully not too distant, world economic conditions will stabilize and economies will grow faster. From the position of a rational person who has to predict the future (remember, "speculators" are also called futures traders) part (not all) of the problems will result from the decisions of a President who by his actions, despite his words/claims, is decidedly anti easy/affordable energy. And is reluctant to take bold action to attempt to stabilize the middle east, and thus a major component of the petroleum energy stream.
Presidents CAN do things that will lower the cost of fuel, but they aren't the kinds of things that the autocratic political class and their supporters often offer. I put up the chart earlier of a near 100 year history of inflation adjusted gasoline prices. It clearly showed, among other things, that government "doing something" in a control sense cause the highest prices, not lowest. When Pres. Reagan decontrolled oil prices, they dropped dramatically. When Pres Bush 43 announced the opening up of federal lands for drilling..............yep, the price dropped. Not because production started up right away, but because the EXPECTATION of future production increases sent a message to futures traders. It does take time for new fields to be brought to production. Our friends on the left often have reminded us over the past 3 - 4 decades about how it takes 7-10 years for that.............................well.........except now the President whos been in control for only 3 years deserves all the credit for production increases within that time.............................something doesn't add up there.Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 03-21-2012 at 12:59 PM.

Crikey!
Just found this thread yesterday...how could I have missed it for so long?
Spent three hours reading my way through it; some very thought provoking things have been written.
I'm just glad our political scene is not as complex/convoluted as yours.
But ultimately, as a major world influence, what happens in your country will have ramifications for little New Zealand.
Choose your politicians carefully and vote wisely guys!
Remember that those who seek Political Glory are not neccassarily those best suited for it...

As received - usually I check these things over, but several have references that should work. Plus - I got lazeeeee
"Oklahoma is the only state that Obama did not carry one county in the last election...
While everyone is focusing on Arizona 's new law, look what Oklahoma has been doing!!!!
An update from Oklahoma:
Oklahoma law passed, 37 to 9, had a few liberals in the mix, an amendment to place the Ten Commandments on the front entrance to the state capitol. The feds in D.C., along with the ACLU, said it would be a mistake. Hey this is a conservative state, based on Christian values...! HB 1330
Guess what.......... Oklahoma did it anyway.
Oklahoma recently passed a law in the state to incarcerate all illegal immigrants, and ship them back to where they came from unless they want to get a green card and become an American citizen. They all scattered. HB 1804. Hope we didn't send any of them to your state. This was against the advice of the Federal Government, and the ACLU, they said it would be a mistake.
Guess what.......... Oklahoma did it anyway.
Recently we passed a law to include DNA samples from any and all illegal's to the Oklahoma database, for criminal investigative purposes. Pelosi said it was unconstitutional SB 1102
Guess what......... Oklahoma did it anyway.
Several weeks ago, we passed a law, declaring Oklahoma as a Sovereign state, not under the Federal Government directives. Joining Texas, Montana, and Utah as the only states to do so.
More states are likely to follow: Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolina's, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, West Virginia, Mississippi and Florida. Save your confederate money, it appears the South is about to rise up once again. HJR 1003
The federal Government has made bold steps to take away our guns. Oklahoma, a week ago, passed a law confirming people in this state have the right to bear arms and transport them in their vehicles. I'm sure that was a set back for the criminals. The Liberals didn't like it -- But ....
Guess what........... Oklahoma did it anyway.
Recently, the state has voted and passed a law that ALL driver's license exams will be printed in English, and only English, and no other language. They have been called racist for doing this, but the fact is that ALL of the road signs are in English only. If you want to drive in Oklahoma, you must read and write English. Really simple.
By the way, the Liberals don't like any of this either.
Guess what...who cares... Oklahoma is doing it anyway. "

Brings new meaning to "I'm just an Okie from Muskogee", doesn't it???? Maybe with a few states setting the precedent, others will realize they don't have to cower under to the might Feds!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure that the Missouri legislature passed a law requiring that the drivers license test be in English, but I'm not sure if it was signed in to law. We have a democrat for a governor and I'm hoping that will change in November.Ken Thomas

I only wish the rest of the country would follow. Common sense just doesn't seem to count for anything anymore. It's too late here in California, but maybe there is hope for the rest of the country!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

The US Constitution is being trampled on so much by the current administration, I almost feel like I'm living in one of the banana republics I used to travel to on business.
"In front of the White House a man is sitting on a park bench in the throes of depression. He is surrounded by all 43 presidents. In the forefront, purposefully ignoring the depressed man is President Obama, whose right foot is stepping on the Constitution. James Madison is next to Obama, pleading with him to stop.
This tableau is called “The Forgotten Man”, a painting by Jon McNaughton, an artist who is known for his politically-charged work.
The painting, which uses objects such as discarded dollar bills as symbols and scraps of paper with individual constitutional amendments scrawled onto them............"Dave W

One of my brothers forwarded this to me this morning:
The book, "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand foretells this condition.
A word worth remembering...
Could not find it in an old Webster's.
Googled it and discovered it is a recently "coined" new word found on a T shirt on eBay.
Getting really close to the bone!
Finally, a word to describe our current situation.
"Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) -
A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers."

Do people really think we became the most productive and influential country in the the world, not to mention the wealthiest and most inventive (no coincidence those two go together) as a result of Government direction and ownership? History is full of examples of dictator run countries/economies with a record that doesn't/hasn't ever shined. Again that old saying rings true: Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

I thought this was a joke forum---
The jist of my post is that---why does wall street have anything to do with this besides trading stock in the oil COMPANIES???? not a futures market to manipulate the pump prices--The oil companies should have the wells, pumps, tankers--trucks/rail cars/pipe system to get the crude to the refinery and the refined products to their stations---
Why are wall street ers mading extra money on the fuel I buy at say a Shell station, that was from a Shell owned well and refinery????Last edited by jerry clayton; 03-26-2012 at 08:45 AM.
